Snow, ice, and freezing temps don’t care how many years you’ve been behind the wheel. One second of complacency can change everything. Here are the BIG ONES to remember this winter:
1. Pre-trip like your life depends on it (because it does)�→ Check brakes, tires, wipers, defrosters, lights, and ALL fluids�→ Carry extra washer fluid – it freezes FAST when it gets nasty
2. Slow Down – Posted limits are for dry pavement�→ Double or triple your following distance�→ 45 mph can feel like 85 on glare ice
3. Chains? Know BEFORE you need them�→ Practice putting them on in a warm shop, not on a mountain grade at 2 a.m.�→ Carry the right number and know your state’s chain laws
4. Black ice is real and it’s a truck killer�→ Bridges, overpasses, and shaded areas freeze first�→ If the steering feels “light,” you’re probably already on it – ease off everything
5. Jake brake + ice = jackpot of trouble�→ Use low gear and light braking instead when possible
6. If the road is closed or conditions turn stupid – PARK IT�→ No load is worth your life or someone else’s�→ A safe driver is a driver who knows when to shut it down

National Truck Driver Appreciation Week

America’s truck drivers have been instrumental in keeping our nation moving over the last few months. They have stayed on the roads, delivering what we need the most. Thank you truck drivers!

Since COVID-19 there has been a spike in speeding state-wide. Law officials all over North America are keeping an extra sharp watch on commercial drivers who are texting, not wearing seatbelts, and with extra focus on speeding.
Be safe out there!

Operation Safe Driver Week is in a few weeks, July 12-18. Throughout that week, law enforcement will be looking for unsafe drivers on our roadways, with a focus on speeding. Identified drivers will be pulled over and may be issued a warning/citation. https://www.cvsa.org/news-entry/2020-osd-week/
