Small upgrades can sometimes make a bigger difference than expected.
The same way a simple renovation can completely change a room, small automation upgrades can improve the efficiency and performance of a wastewater treatment system.
Automation can help facilities:
• Improve operational efficiency
• Reduce labor requirements
• Enable remote monitoring and alarming
• Improve access to process data
• Lower chemical and energy usage
• Support future capacity needs
Recently, Operators Unlimited helped upgrade the controls and equipment at a local beverage manufacturer's wastewater plant, providing improved monitoring capabilities and more efficient operation.
Not every wastewater challenge requires a major capital project. Sometimes the right upgrade, or even a process adjustment, can make a significant impact.

Every wastewater project comes with its own unique challenges.
Operators Unlimited recently assisted with the decommissioning of a textile mill wastewater treatment plant in North Carolina. The facility was transitioning from operating under its own NPDES permit to discharging directly to a municipal treatment system.
The project involved:
• Two one-million-gallon basins
• Sludge removal and disposal
• Environmental compliance requirements
• A restrictive budget and limited site footprint
To complete the project, Operators Unlimited implemented a phased approach that included facility assessment, environmental planning, sludge dewatering, operational staffing, and ongoing project monitoring.
As the project progressed, it was discovered that the basins contained significantly more solids than originally estimated. Working closely with the client, the project scope was adjusted and additional dewatering technology was introduced to keep the project moving forward.
The result was a successful project completed through collaboration, flexibility, and practical wastewater solutions.

Licensed wastewater operators play a critical role in keeping facilities compliant, operational, and efficient.
As experienced operators continue retiring and fewer young professionals enter the field, many facilities are facing staffing challenges across wastewater operations.
Wastewater operators are responsible for monitoring treatment systems, maintaining proper wastewater conditions, operating equipment, collecting samples, and helping facilities remain within permitted discharge limits.
Operators Unlimited provides operational support for facilities needing licensed wastewater professionals across Biological and Physical/Chemical wastewater treatment systems across the Southeast.
Whether a facility needs part-time relief support, a full-time operator, or complete operational management, our goal is to help facilities maintain predictable and efficient wastewater operations.

Flocculation is the step that follows coagulation in wastewater treatment.
After coagulants help suspended particles begin clumping together, flocculants are introduced to help those smaller clumps form larger chains called floc.
As these chains grow larger and stronger, they become heavy enough to begin settling out of the water. This process is known as sedimentation and is an important part of separating solids from wastewater.
Mixing still plays an important role during flocculation, but it must be done more gently to avoid breaking apart the forming particle chains.
Operators Unlimited provides coagulants, flocculants, and custom treatment solutions based on the specific characteristics of each wastewater system.

Maintaining proper pH levels is a constant challenge in wastewater treatment.
One commonly used chemical is Caustic Soda, also known as Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH). It is a strong alkali with a high pH, making it effective for raising pH levels in water.
In wastewater treatment, Caustic Soda is often used to help neutralize acidic conditions and support processes such as heavy metal removal.
Operators Unlimited supplies Caustic Soda solutions and supports facilities in selecting the right approach based on their system requirements.
