Associated Builders and Contractors - Virginia Chapter

Last Friday, Eric Stichler (ABC-VA 2023 Chair), Dalton Davidson (ABC-VA 2023 Board Member) and Robert Camlin (ABC-VA Vice President) visited Norfolk State University to present a check for $12,000 in support of the 𝗡𝗘𝗪 ABC-VA chapter at NSU.

This donation will be provided to the NSU Department of Technology Discretionary Fund and will be deployed in awarding student scholarships and merit-based tuition scholarships for students in construction-related fields. The funds will greatly assist NSU's two-year and four-year programs and help create, expand or enhance construction-related programming.

A huge shoutout and thank you goes to Dwayne Sellars (W.M. Jordan Company) who is currently serving as the ABC-VA Norfolk State University Chapter Liaison. We are excited to follow the students of NSU on their journeys!

ABC-VA Past Chairman Todd Hammond of Capital Interior Contractors, Inc. and ABC-VA President Patrick Dean met with Governor Glenn Youngkin on December 2nd in Richmond.

Workforce development was a key topic, as the Governor has been sharing his plans to move all the agencies dealing with workforce under the umbrella of one statewide agency to increase communication, productivity and better results for the Commonwealth.

The Fair and Open Competition Act was also discussed with the governor, and he is fully supportive of our efforts over the next few years to have the legislation passed again as it once was 10 years ago.

Friday, June 10th marked a momentous evening for 51 craft professionals as they graduated from Northern Virginia's Apprenticeship Program! Four years ago, these outstanding individuals walked through our doors and set goals to cross the finish line. Through hard times, good times and pandemic times, they stuck with it, and we hope they are as proud of themselves as we are! Congratulations, graduates!! 🎓

Congratulations, Luisa! Luisa is one of the recipients of our 2022-2023 Construction Education Foundation (CEF) scholarships. She is using the scholarship funds to pursue an MBA at Virginia Tech while she continues working for ABC-VA member company, TMG Construction Corporation!

TMG Construction would like to congratulate Luisa Spragg on her award of a 2022 Construction Education Foundation (CEF) scholarship through the Association of Builders and Contractors – Virginia Chapter. Luisa is an Assistant Project Manager with the TMG Regional Team in Leesburg, Virginia. Luisa is pursuing her M.B.A. through Virginia Tech’s Pamplin College of Business.

"I want to thank ABC and more importantly TMG," Luisa says, "for the support as I pursue my M.B.A. The topics covered in MBA courses have many parallels to challenges facing the construction industry, including workforce, logistics, and the availability of new technology to assess project performance and the fair and reasonableness of offers. Exposure to these challenges from an academic perspective will complement my work at TMG.”

Last Sunday, the Young Professionals Leadership Institute Community Service group visited to provide construction services, mow the grass and walk the dogs. The team appreciated the opportunity to give back and hang out with these furry friends all day! 🐶🐱
