Hey, it’s Melody, the Dietitian! I’m always encouraging my patients to eat more fruits and vegetables, but lately, it might be more difficult because of high food prices. One way to combat this is to shop for produce that is “in season.” This means produce is at its peak time of growing and harvesting. This results in fresher and more flavorful produce that’s also less expensive! Swipe for a list of which fruits and vegetables to buy during each season.

Project ChildSafe is a program of the National Shooting Sports Foundation to promote fi****ms safety and education.

Thank you to everyone who supported our All Better Wishes fundraiser for Make-A-Wish Utah! Last weekend, we honored Wish Kid Zurie with her Wish Proclamation, surprising her with the news that her wish to visit her favorite Orlando theme parks will be granted by Make-A-Wish Utah.💙

Together, we helped raise $7,686 to help grant wishes like Zurie's and bring hope, strength, and joy to children and families facing critical illnesses across our community. Thank you so much for your support!

June is Month, so Let’s Talk About Firearm Safety! Fi****ms are now the leading cause of death for children in the U.S. The safest home for children & teens is one without guns.

If you keep a gun in your home, hiding it or teaching your kids not to play with a gun isn’t enough.

All guns in your home should be locked and unloaded, with ammunition locked separately. For a free gun lock, visit projectchildsafe.org.

Help keep your child's reading skills sharp this summer! In an average summer, kids can lose about 20% of the progress they've made in reading. Here are some tips from the AAP on how you can support your child's reading over the summer & keep it fun:

📚 Get kids their own public library card to help make visiting and exploring the library more fun
📚 Pair books with summer travel plans. Find stories that feature trip destinations or add a kid-friendly travel guide or scavenger hunt.
📚 Create a fun reading nook at home
📚 Connect reading to summer adventures. Pair reading with trips to the zoo, planetarium, or outdoor settings like camping and lakes.
📚 Read out loud to each other
📚 Encourage kids to trade books with friends

See link in bio for more summer reading ideas, including how to incorporate audiobooks!

Meet Tyson Thomas, NP, whose positivity, compassion, and sense of humor make a lasting impact on both patients and coworkers alike.
As a child, Tyson dreamed of becoming a pediatric doctor, and today he’s living out that dream as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. Caring for children and families has always been his calling, and one of the most rewarding parts of his job is seeing returning patients walk back through the doors. Building those long-term relationships and watching kids grow is what keeps him energized.
One of the most valuable lessons Tyson has learned throughout his career is simple but powerful: choose positivity. He believes that being negative and mean doesn’t change anything, while laughter and a positive attitude can make even difficult days a little brighter.
When challenges arise, Tyson stays grounded by focusing on gratitude for the thingshe has. That mindset helps him maintain perspective and continue showing up for the people who depend on him.
Tyson also values the support of his coworkers. One memorable experience involved a colleague who, despite having no experience fixing doors, confidently helped him by purchasing an expensive part he needed. It was a reminder of the trust, encouragement, and teamwork that make a workplace special.
For anyone just starting out, Tyson’s advice is: “Don’t be afraid to ask any type of question. We all start somewhere.”
Outside of work, Tyson loves to cook and jokes that it’s hard for him to enjoy restaurants because he knows he can often make the meal even better at home! If he could travel anywhere in the world, he’d head straight to Hobbiton in New Zealand, drawn by its beautiful scenery and connection to one of his favorite movie settings.
If he ever won the lottery, Tyson says he would donate 10% and buy a small 60–80 acre farm. And when it comes to spending a perfect day off, it depends on the weather: warm days are for paddleboarding with his wife, while colder days are best spent playing board games or enjoying a good book.
Tyson is a perfect fit! We are so happy to have him at the Draper office!

Happy ! Pride is important for kids, families, and allies to come together to unite, empower, and celebrate our LGBTQ+ community! This year’s Utah Pride Festival & Parade is happening June 6-7, and the theme is Pride Elevated.

You don’t have to be LGBTQ+ to participate in Pride Month, but no matter where, when, or how you celebrate, it is important to help LGBTQ+ youth feel safe, affirmed, connected, and welcome, especially in the face of adversity. Everyone deserves the opportunity to thrive safely, fully, and with pride 🩷❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🤎🖤

To Go. To Meet. To Have. To Be. To Give. There are so many different types of wishes! They can help kids feel better and give them the hope and strength they need to fight and even overcome.

Make-A-Wish Utah serves children facing critical illnesses, and a child does not need to be terminally ill to qualify for a wish. While many wish children are referred by their medical team, families can also make a referral directly. It only takes one referral to bring hope and joy to a child’s journey.

Wasatch Pediatrics has partnered with to support wishes for Utah kids because we believe in the power of a wish and giving back.

To refer a child or learn more about the impact of a wish, visit utah.wish.org.

Summer is here, which is a good reminder to think about swim safety! Teaching your child how to swim helps build confidence in the water and can significantly reduce the risk of drowning. But how do you know when to start & what to look for in a swim program? Head to our link in bio for swim lesson FAQs!

💧 According to the AAP recommendations, many children can start swim lessons as early as age 1, depending on their developmental readiness and comfort level in the water.

💧 By age 4, most children are ready for swim lessons if they haven’t started yet. If you have questions about whether your child is ready for swim lessons, talk with your pediatrician.

⚠️❗️ Remember, swim lessons don’t replace supervision - even with lessons, CLOSE supervision is always essential!
