The Doylestown Academy Boys High School team traveled to Elkhart, Indiana to play in the Tier 1 Club National Championships from 5/21 to 5/23. Doylestown entered the tournament as Pennsylvania State Champions and the #4 ranked team in the country and faced off against the #5 ranked Thunder Rugby Club out of San Diego, CA in the national quarterfinals on 5/21. Doylestown came away with the victory in an extremely hard-fought match, 35-26. Commentators noted that this was the hardest hitting match of the entire day. Men of match were senior prop Chago Bustelo and junior outside center Nick Miletto, who combined for all 5 of Doylestown’s tries. Men of the Match: Chago Bustelo and Nick Miletto.
The Dragons next faced nationally top-ranked Charlotte Cardinals in the semifinals on Friday 5/22. The match started well, and the Dragons battled fiercely, however the Cardinals secured the victory with a Final Score: 10-57.
The Dragons next faced Utah state champ and nationally third-ranked Cavemen Rugby in the third place match on Saturday 5/23. From the opening kickoff, it was all Cavemen as they were quicker and physically dominant in every facet. The score was Cavemen 21-Doylestown 7 as the halftime whistle blew. Players and coaches looked at each other during that halftime and knew we had plenty of fight left and it was the Cavemen who were fading. Doylestown ended the weekend with an epic come from behind victory 40-33 to secure Third place in the country. Man of the match was Jamie Weir!
Doylestown finished the season 13-2 with both losses coming to National Champion Charlotte Cardinals. Doylestown is the back to back RugbyPA State Champion. Doylestown defeated 5 teams who played at Nationals this year including the state champions from New York, Virginia, Utah, and North Carolina and also the Tier 2 National Champion. Doylestown is 26-2 over the last two seasons including an undefeated tour to Ireland last year.

🏆 STATE CHAMPIONS! 🏆
The Doylestown Academy Boys U16 Rugby team claimed the RugbyPA U16 State Championship with a hard-fought 18-5 victory over LaSalle College High School this past Sunday at Penn State Berks!
In a rematch of their tight mid-April clash, the young Dragons came out flying:
• Justin Grosso opened the scoring with a slick early try
• Brady McReynolds quickly made it 10-0 before halftime
• Jonah Khanan added a beautiful solo effort in the second half, faking defenders left and right to score in the corner
LaSalle answered with a try, but Doylestown’s defense stayed rock solid. Captain Jake Beckenhauer then calmly knocked through a crucial penalty kick with under 4 minutes left to seal the deal!
What a season for this group — mostly freshmen with just 4 sophomores and 3 eighth graders — finishing 10-3 overall and undefeated in RugbyPA play.
Huge congratulations to the entire team and coaches on bringing home the title! Dragons on top! 🔥

The Doylestown Academy Boys High School team hosted St. Joe’s Prep High School on Sunday 5/10/26 in a RugbyPA State semifinal match. Doylestown scored the opening try at the 13-minute mark to take a 7-0 lead. .rugby Joe’s Prep then played inspired rugby and scored 3 straight trys to take a 17-7 lead at the 22-minute mark of the first half. Doylestown players looked at each other in the try zone, stayed calm, and agreed that it was well past time to turn it on. And that they did with 7 consecutive tries to make the score 50-17. During that time, Doylestown played with their highest work rate and greatest support of the entire season. There were countless line breaks that went through many sets of hands before the try was scored. Every player was hungry for the offload or even better, to hit and clear the ruck quickly so the ball could be sent to the next receiver so that player could score the try. Man of the match was Jackson Reilly. Doylestown next plays in the state championship match against Gregory the Great Academy at Penn State Berks on Sunday 5/17. The last photo is of the team after the victory and before they presented flowers to their moms for Mother’s Day.
