A fun day out in London marked the last day of the DelVal Equine Study Abroad adventures.
The students watched the Sunday Parade at Buckingham Palace, learned about royal horses and carriages at the Royal Mews, enjoyed a sightseeing tour of the River Thames, and ended the day exploring the Tower of London.
A great way to end this trip of a lifetime to the UK and Ireland!

One of the highlights of our DelVal Equine Study Abroad was the afternoon spent with the team at Hartpury Equine.
DeVal and Hartpury have enjoyed a long-standing student exchange program, so it was great for our students to learn more about their curriculum, see the fabulous facilities, and meet some of the students and personnel.
Hartpury Equine really outdid themselves for our group - the students got to watch a water treadmill demonstration, participated in a biomechanics workshop, and even took turns on the riding simulator! All the while, we learned about ongoing research projects at the campus, and the services they offer to the equine industry.
Thank you Hartpury Equine for a fantastic visit!

Yesterday the DelVal Equine Study Abroad students visited the British Showjumping National Training Centre, a modern, centrally-located facility focused on education, coaching, and training from the grassroots through Olympic levels.
Hosting our visit was none other than British Showjumping CEO Iain Graham, who discussed how the governing body meets the needs of horses and riders across the UK, how it ensures British Showjumping is a leader on the world stage, and how the facility is a national model as a high-performance centre that champions sustainable practices such as solar power, rainwater capture, renewable energy use, and compostable bedding. The students also learned about unique placement opportunities within British Showjumping.
In all, it was a fascinating stop on our tour and we are grateful for the opportunity to visit!

On Thursday, the DelVal Equine Study Abroad students visited the The British Thoroughbred Retraining Centre, where they learned about the important work the team there does to assess, rehabilitate, retrain, and rehome horses after their racing careers.
The students were treated to wonderfully engaging presentations and demonstrations by BTRC CEO Gillian Carlisle and other BTRC staff, and enjoyed getting up close and personal with some of the current BTRC residents.

Tuesday was Day 8 of our DelVal Equine Study Abroad the our first of two days riding at Rockstar Equine in Cannock, England.
The students received instruction from the amazing Rockstar team in four key areas: rider fitness, flatwork, jumping, and riding out. On the second day of instruction, each student will also be assessed on their horsemanship skills and knowledge as they try to achieve their British Horse Society Challenge Awards at the Bronze or Silver level.
We have been extremely fortunate to partner with Rockstar Equine as our host yard in the UK since 2019. The top-notch instructors (human and equine!) always ensure that our students not only are fully prepared for their on-site assessments, but also gain valuable skills, insights, and confidence that will support them throughout their riding careers.
The riding days are always a huge highlight of the study abroad trips, and the students had a great time learning from the Rockstar team!
