We celebrate Bucks County Free Library’s 70th anniversary this year. Each of our Bucks County Free Library branches has a unique story to tell.
In the 1950s, local businessman Samuel Pierce purchased the one-room Gehman schoolhouse, hired a librarian, and stocked it with books, opening Perkasie’s first library. By the 1970s, the library outgrew this space and moved locations, while also merging with the county library system.
Funded in part with money raised by the local community, the current building was built in the late 1980s and features open-beamed architecture characteristic of the period. An original sign from the library’s early days still hangs inside the library today.
We are proud to serve the Bucks County community for seven decades and counting.
