Being a US citizen and understanding our inalienable rights and laws needs to be constantly reaffirmed. Blue states' willingness to embrace lawlessness like Minnesota fraud, Oregon's ANTIFA, and Illinois Chicago street wars, California voter fraud, and now Massachusetts infanticide is corroding our core sense of Justice. There is room for diversity of thought and sunlight on these issues, but danger exists from the factions that seek to limit or impose merit-based individual accomplishments.

In a predictable act of futility, I emailed both our Senators to ask them to support the SAVE Act. Yes, I received the usual auto-response saying my message was important and that a detailed response would follow soon. The Shaheen email included a request to do something positive for the country just this once before she retires. Again, I sent this weeks before the recess. Just got her response with the Democrat boilerplate talking points. Some day we may have a senator who represents NH values; it's been so long, it's hard to remember those days.

Dear Mark,

Thank you for contacting me about the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) America Act. Please know I have significant concerns about the restrictions the SAVE America Act would place on millions of Americans intending to exercise their right to vote. I am opposed to this legislation.

As you know, the SAVE America Act would require individuals to provide proof of U.S. citizenship when registering to vote in federal elections and photo ID at the time of voting. These requirements would make it more challenging for individuals whose current legal name does not match their birth certificate to vote, including married women who took their husband’s names. Furthermore, the SAVE America Act would place significant burdens on mail-in voting and require states to submit voter rolls, including sensitive personal information, to the federal government without proper safeguards. It is already illegal for non-citizens, including permanent legal residents, to vote in federal elections.

On March 27, 2026, the SAVE America Act failed to pass a procedural motion that would have allowed it to move forward for further consideration in the Senate. Please know I joined my colleagues in voting against this legislation .

While I believe firmly that maintaining the integrity and security of our elections is critical to our democracy, I also strongly oppose placing constraints on the constitutional right to vote. Fraudulent voting is illegal and should be prevented and instances of such conduct are already extremely rare. Attempts to discourage democratic participation in New Hampshire give credence to debunked claims of voter fraud in our state. I have strongly opposed attempts in New Hampshire to make it more difficult for students and other young people to vote. As Governor, I twice vetoed voter identification legislation and will continue to resist efforts that limit democratic participation.
