Welcome to race week, folks!
NASCAR returns to Talladega for their spring race weekend, and here's your first look at what we could see.
Friday looks good with a small chance for a stray shower, while chances are a little higher to see some rain drops on Saturday and Sunday.
Keep checking back for updates! Don't let this be your one and only look at the forecast. Models are still struggling to find consistent agreement among each other, so expect to see changes to these rain chances as we head through the next several days.

Consistent signals of a pattern flip are on the horizon!
Rain chances are once again on the increase especially for the end of the weekend, and there's continuing indications that we could see some occasionally better rain chances into next week as well.
It's not going to be anything drought-busting, but it's likely more helpful than what we've seen over the last few weeks.

Breezy conditions and low humidity behind the cold front combined with ongoing extreme drought conditions have created a high wildfire danger around much of the region today.
Outdoor burning of any kind is very highly discouraged.

A light jacket may not be a terrible idea this morning!
Most places are warming through the 50s after temperatures got as cool as the upper 30s in a few spots just a couple hours ago.
It's a good change of pace, but don't get used to it! 80s return again starting on Tuesday.

A cold front brings a little bit of light rain to portions of the area Sunday morning, but don't get too excited.
Rainfall totals reach 0.25" in most of the best-case scenarios, and it looks like most of that stays south of Interstate 10. That little amount of rain will have zero impact on worsening drought conditions.

The weekend starts dry and warm with partly cloudy skies, but don't expect that to stick around.
A weak cold front brings a few light showers to the area early Sunday morning before temperatures turn noticeably cooler into early next week.
Saturday will be the day to plan those outdoor activities, then keep some rain gear nearby if you're out and about later Sunday morning.
04/17/2026
Our scheduled round of scattered fair-weather cumulus clouds are back late this Friday morning as temperatures are already warming into the upper 70s and lower 80s.
That's all we'll continue to see through the rest of the day as highs warm into the upper 80s. This should be the warmest day of the year so far for many locations.
04/16/2026
The weekend starts off just as warm as the work week ends, but changes are on the way for Sunday.
A passing cold front will turn temperatures cooler, and this first look at one short-term model is slightly more promising for the coverage of rain late Sunday morning.
04/16/2026
Drought continues to worsen over the Wiregrass with much of the region now in extreme drought conditions. We need rain, but there's very little to be found.
Light showers could bring less than 0.10" of rain to the area on Sunday, but that's it through the middle of next week.
04/16/2026
The warmest air we've seen so far this year is settling in over the next few days. Highs today and tomorrow will be within a degree of tying record values.
A few locations could briefly reach 90° Friday afternoon, then we turn cooler as a cold front passes overhead on Sunday.

A grand total of 46 tornadoes tracked across Alabama on this day in 2011, breaking the previous state record of 34 on November 24, 2001.
Most of the tornadoes occurred in western and central Alabama, but an EF-2 tornado impacted western Covington County in the Wiregrass.
Often dubbed the "Forgotten Tornado Outbreak", the state record for most tornadoes in a single day would once again be broken when 62 touched down on April 27, 2011.
3,429 days to break the state record the first time, then just 12 days to break it again.
04/15/2026
Rain chances are very low, but some cooler air moves into the region behind a passing cold front on Sunday.
Temperatures go from the upper 80s to near 90° on Friday and Saturday to the upper 70s and lower 80s early next week.
