At Emfinger Steel, we love helping you clear out your old scrap and putting cash in your pocket. However, keeping our team, our customers, and our facility safe is always our number one priority.

That is why we cannot accept hazardous materials, including sealed gas cylinders like this acetylene tank. Even when they appear completely empty or old, pressurized tanks pose a major safety hazard during the sorting, preparing, and recycling processes.

Removing the valve helps on oxygen and propane tanks, but because acetylene tanks have a clay filler that holds the acetylene in stasis. It remains a big hazard for decades, even with the valve out.

If you are ever loading up your trailer and feel unsure whether we can take a specific item, please give us a call at 334-794-4251 or send us a quick message with a photo. We are always happy to help you check before you make the drive down Webb Road!

Every piece of metal that comes through our facility has a story. This old military vehicle served its purpose, took care of its crew, and has finally reached the end of its road. Now, it is our job to make sure it gets recycled safely and prepared to be turned into something brand new.

We are closed today for Memorial Day. Please take some time to rest and remember those who have fallen.

Normal hours resume Tuesday 7:30am - 4:00pm.

We look forward to recycling with you later this week.

Just a couple of our local scrapyard cats doing a thorough inspection of some old farm equipment. No defects found, but they do think it could use a bit more sunshine. 🐈‍⬛🐈‍⬛

I might never be as cool as the person who hauled us scrap with a Cybertruck. This is the first load anyone has brought to our yard with one, and they brought a great mix of appliances, equipment, and stainless steel.

Unfortunately for us, the driver did not sell the truck with the scrap.

No data escapes the scrapyard alive. We buy computers, servers, and other electronics from businesses and help make sure everything 1) stays out of the landfill, and 2) the data-bearing hardware is destroyed. Bonus: escrap is more valuable than the highest grades of scrap steel.

If you are a business looking to safely dispose of electronics, we'd love to help.

The most interesting vehicle I've seen in scrap. I've seen faster ones, older ones, more expensive ones... but nothing as more interesting than this... Motorcycar? Automocycle?

If you weren't surprised to see a trackball instead of a laser sensor on the bottom of this mouse... Remember to stretch before doing anything strenuous 👴

How heavy are these? Hint: You probably can't lift it by yourself. Probably not with a friend either.

We bale aluminum cans in order to get more in the truck and save on fuel. We fill our roll-off containers with loose cans and dump them on our baler's conveyor belt, which ends up making these things, ready to ship.

The answer to how much they weigh is in the comments.

This happens about once a year. Please take this opportunity to get rid of old tires and computer monitors especially. We get a lot of calls about what to do with old tires. This is your answer, but you have to act quickly.

Dothan To Host Hazardous Waste Collection Day

Dothan, Ala.— Residents will have a chance to safely dispose of old medications and other household waste during a special collection event this weekend.

According to the Dothan Police Department, the City of Dothan Government and the 334 Prevention Project are hosting a Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day on Saturday, April 25.

The event will take place from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Westgate Recycling Center, located at 2725 Choctaw Street.
Officials say the event allows residents to properly dispose of expired or unused medications to prevent them from falling into the wrong hands.

Accepted items include paints, oils, greases, solvents, cleaning supplies, pesticides, household chemicals, electronics, computers, records for shredding, old tires, and medications such as pills, capsules, and both prescription and over-the-counter drugs.

Organizers note that liquid medications, sharps, and needles will not be accepted.

Residents are encouraged to take advantage of the event as a safe and responsible way to clear out unwanted items while helping protect the community.
