Stop blaming young adults for living at home. The numbers tell a different story.
A record 25.2 million adults under 35 lived with their parents in 2025. That's higher than even pandemic levels. But here's the part that should stop you in your tracks.
70% of them have jobs.
This isn't about motivation. It's about math.
Median home price in 2025 hit $430,000 nationally, up 34.4% since 2019. Median asking rent climbed to $1,673 a month. Wages simply have not kept pace with housing costs. Living at home isn't failure. For a lot of people right now, it's a strategy.
If you're in your 20s or early 30s working hard, paying bills, and still living at home, you are not behind. You are being smart in a market that has gotten genuinely harder to break into.
But living at home doesn't have to be forever, and it doesn't have to feel hopeless. There are real paths to homeownership even in this market. First time buyer programs. Lower down payment options. Markets where your dollar still goes further. You just need someone who knows how to find them.

Mortgage rates just climbed to 6.51%, the highest level in 9 months, and a lot of buyers are wondering why rates still aren’t dropping. 📈
Yes, there’s a new Federal Reserve chair.
But the reality is mortgage rates are influenced by MUCH more than politics alone: • inflation • oil and energy prices • Treasury yields • global conflict • economic uncertainty
And right now, all of those pressures are pushing rates higher instead of lower.
Personally, I think too many people are sitting on the sidelines waiting for the “perfect” housing market instead of building the right strategy for the market we actually have.

For anyone thinking about buying a home, relocating, or investing in real estate, this is another reminder that the housing market remains challenging.
