I’m non-binary and transgender*, and use they/them pronouns and Mx. honorifics. I came to this realization in 2015, but still come out on nearly a daily basis ten years later.

I present as femme which means that I’m misgendered almost all the time. If you’ve ever seen or read the Last Unicorn, you know that at one point in the story when the unicorn is out in the world, the people around her only see her as a horse and not the cryptid she actually is, which is essentially how it feels for me nearly all of the time. I really value you friends and family who DO put in the time and effort to use my pronouns and see me for the unicorn I really am. 🦄

*while the non-binary identity is under the transgender umbrella, not all non-binary individuals are transgender
