Did you know that MARTA just won the American Public Transit Association's Gold Award for safety in heavy rail operations? Along with this awesome news, MARTA is also working on a modernization program that will include better graphics, graffiti-resistant walls, and LED lighting that's brighter AND better for the environment! All of this will make it all the more sweet for Assembly's connection to the MARTA Gold Line 🙌🏻🚉

: After GM cars came off of the assembly line, they underwent a series of final inspections to ensure the highest quality. Today, we took the idea of the line from GM history and integrated it into the development of Assembly. Our soon to be completed Rail park will pay homage to GM with its name: the Assembly Line

: Over the weekend, Serta Simmons Bedding (SSB) announced the relocation of their corporate headquarters to Assembly! SSB is a Fortune 400 company that will be bringing 500 new jobs to Doraville. The office development will break ground this summer.

Assembly history 1973: The Doraville GM plant produced the first line of American-made cars with passenger airbags with this limited release of Chevy Impalas. This limited edition batch only produced a total of 1,000 Impalas, and this car is only one of two that remain today. Expect to drop about $500k if you want this one for your collection! 💵🚘

2016: Third Rail Studios opens as the first development in Assembly, serving as the anchor for the Assembly Yards arts district that will soon be home to additional office, retail, and food/bev tenants that will emphasize the creativity we're bringing to the area 🎥

: On September 24, 2014, developer Integral Group purchased the former GM plant to transform the site into a large, mixed-use community featuring a movie studio, walkable retail village, housing, a rail park paying homage to the site's history, and office towers expected to reach up to 30 stories. By the end of the estimated 10-year buildout, Assembly expects to create a regional impact of up to $2.5 billion and create between 6 and 8 thousand jobs

: On September 26, 2008, the GM plant in Doraville shut down when the company's vehicle production operations moved to Canada. This was a blow to the Doraville community as their largest industry - and employer - shut its doors. In their last year of production at Doraville, the GM plant produced around 10,000 vehicles, primarily used for the USPS. The last vehicle to come off of the assembly line remains on the Assembly site today!

Ready for a little bit of history? Today's goes all the way back to 1947 when General Motors opened their auto factory in Doraville, where it became the area's largest employer and economic benefit to the community. Now the home of Assembly, the plant was open for 60 years and employed thousands. The 165-acre plant was so large that employees had to use these adult tricycles to navigate!
