It’s not every day you share a hospital room—and a recovery journey—with your sister.
At 99 and 88 years young, sisters Miss Jean and Miss Johnnia found themselves patients at TriStar Horizon at the same time—an experience neither expected, but one that speaks to resilience, family, and compassionate care.
Jean was visiting her sister when she suddenly suffered a stroke. EMS transported her to TriStar Horizon’s Emergency Department, where she received acute care before continuing her recovery in our inpatient rehabilitation unit. Through it all, Johnnia was by her side, visiting daily—never imagining she would soon become a patient herself.
A fall on slippery concrete at home changed that. Johnnia was also transported to TriStar Horizon’s Emergency Department, spent time in acute care, and found herself recovering alongside her sister in our inpatient rehab unit. While here, we had the honor and privilege of celebrating Johnnia’s 88th birthday—a special moment enjoyed by family and staff alike.
At TriStar Horizon, we care like family—treating every patient as if they were our own loved ones. Jean and Johnnia, along with their extended family, have felt that compassion every step of the way and can’t say enough about the exceptional care they have received.
Both sisters joke that they hope to come back to see our staff—but next time, only as grateful former patients.
Our commitment to the communities we serve runs deep, and how our patients feel about their care truly matters to us. Stories like Jean and Johnnia’s represent the heart of Horizon, and we are grateful for the opportunity to care for them.
