Incidence of Tomato Spotted Wilt Virus (TSWV) seems to be higher than normal this year in KY and TN. Normal infection rates for KY and TN are usually around 0.5% of the plants in a field, but this year infection rates may be more like 1 to 2% or even more in some fields. As this virus is transmitted by thrips that do not actually feed on to***co, their presence on the crop is too infrequent to justify foliar insecticide applications after transplanting to try to control thrips. Standard applications of imidacloprid (Admire or generics) or thiamethoxam (Platinum, Durivo, or generics) at transplanting will reduce infection by about 30%. TSWV symptoms include a burning or yellowing on one side of the plant, with burning often following secondary veins. Appearance of infected plants can look somewhat different in burley and dark to***co (see images below).

πŸŒΎπŸ€ Community Partner Spotlight πŸ€πŸŒΎ

The Dickson County 4-H Shooting Sports Program would like to extend our sincere appreciation to Rural 1st for their support of our youth program.

When it comes to supporting rural America, few organizations have the history, commitment, and impact of Rural 1st. Their dedication to strengthening rural communities, supporting agriculture, and helping families achieve their goals has made them a trusted partner for generations.

That same commitment to investing in the future is evident in their support of local youth. Through their generosity, Dickson County 4-H members have opportunities to develop leadership, responsibility, teamwork, discipline, and confidence through Shooting Sports. These experiences help shape tomorrow's leaders and strengthen the communities we all call home.

Community partnerships like this are invaluable, and we are proud to recognize an organization that understands the importance of giving back and creating opportunities for the next generation.

Thank you, Rural 1st, for your continued investment in rural communities, your support of Dickson County youth, and your commitment to helping our members learn, lead, and succeed.
