Rain or shine, Clinton County Dems go out and get the job done! After taking part in our September cleanups the past two weekends (with one very rainy day and one very sunny day), we are proud to announce that we have completed our fourth year of taking part in the Adopt-A-Highway program! This consists of cleaning up a 1.5-mile portion of Grand River Highway and two carpool lots three times a year.

While cleaning up trash has been the main goal of this opportunity, we have really appreciated the camaraderie that has been built along the way. It turns out that you can have really great conversations picking up trash on the side of the highway.

Mark Your Calendars: The next Clinton County No Kings gathering will be held on Saturday, October 17 from 10:30-11:30am in front of the Clinton County Courthouse at 100 E. State Street.

Earlier this month CCDP announced its endorsements for national, state, and local races, specifically for Democratic candidates. We’ve received a lot of questions about suggested candidates for school board elections, too, and understandably so. We’ve seen what happens across the country when individuals who want to disrupt our school boards and who do not have the best interest of all students are elected.

One particular district of interest in Clinton County is the Saint Johns Public Schools Board of Education, where seven candidates are running for three open seats. Voters will be able to vote for up to three individuals from the list of seven on their ballot.

As a County Democratic Party, we are choosing to not explicitly endorse any school board candidates this cycle. For the Saint Johns Public Schools Board of Education though, we want to let voters know that three candidates have been endorsed by the Clinton County Republican Party. The three candidates are Chris DeLiso, Melissa Dennis, and James Sills. Given that stamp of approval and additional details about these individuals that we have heard from our members, we do not believe that these candidates have the best interests of all students at heart and would not serve the Saint Johns community in a way that aligns with our core values when it comes to public education. We advise voters to select 3 other candidates not endorsed by the Clinton County Republican Party for the Saint Johns Public Schools Board of Education.

Please stay informed as you cast your ballot for November 3. Try to do what research you can. We understand it is tough when there is little to no information available on a candidate. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to us at [email protected] with any questions or if you have specific information about your local school board candidates you’d like to pass on. As we receive more information about other districts, we will share what we can.

Safety vests and trash bags will be provided. Participants are responsible for bringing gloves, water, etc.

There are just two more days of office hours left in September! Come and join us this Thursday evening and Saturday morning. We have plenty of yard signs, postcards on hand for visitors to fill out, a great lending library to borrow from, and of course, wonderful conversation. We'll see you this week!

We had a small, but mighty crew out walking in yesterday’s Maple Rapids Lamplighter Festival Parade. We braved the rainy weather and treated ourselves to Phillips Orchards & C***r Mill’s pizza afterwards.

We were so grateful to all who came out to say hello and spend time in conversation about what is important to Clinton County residents and what we are doing to elect candidates like Dr. Harrison who will work hard on our behalf. A great gathering!
