This one keeps shredding the molts, preventing me from confirming the s*x- so fingers crossed for a female!

I don’t care how much buzz they get, their beauty cannot be overstated. Truly one of the most colorful and fascinating creatures to call this earth it’s home- the Poecilotheria metallica (Gooty Sapphire Ornamental Tarantula)

Hope to see their numbers increase somewhat in the wild, but their future seems grim due to the deforestation of their natural habitat and illegal poaching by brown-boxers in the pet trade. No current mainstream conservation effort exists for this or other endangered Poecilotheria.



This sub-adult female was hatched by who I was lucky enough to pick her up from last year.

With temps still high in some places, it’s more important than ever to keep the humidity levels appropriate and their water dishes topped off with fresh clean water!
