Today we pause to honor Juneteenth — a day that reminds us that freedom is something worth fighting for, worth celebrating, and worth protecting.

At TWRDA, that spirit drives everything we do. Every animal we pull from the streets, every foster home we place them in, every adoption — it’s all rooted in the belief that every living being deserves to know what it feels like to be safe, loved, and free.

From Seven waiting patiently with his stuffed lamb, to Reyna’s smile that could light up a whole block, to the ones who are finally resting easy — this is what freedom looks like for them.

Two dogs who deserve so much more. 🐾

GUS is getting adopted July 10th and just needs a short term foster to love him until then. Neuter appt July 1st — foster will need to transport.

ATLAS is an 8 year old German Shepherd who survived the streets of Detroit. Gentle, sweet, good with dogs and cats. Needs a foster or forever home.

An update that made our whole team smile. 🐾

Because of YOUR shares and support, we found fosters for Riley AND all 4 kittens — Pumpkin, Honey, Java, and Sage. Every single one of them is safe tonight.

The kittens saw the vet today and are doing well. Riley also saw the vet today and is stable — but he came back heartworm positive. Heartworm treatment is one of the most costly things we face as a rescue, and Riley deserves every chance at a healthy life.

4 neonatal kittens were pulled off the streets of Detroit during a flood watch and need a bottle foster TOMORROW.

They’re heading to the vet in the morning and need a safe place to land right after.

Meet Pumpkin, Honey, Java, and Sage — approximately 1-2 weeks old, feeding every 2-3 hours around the clock.

We need ONE foster who can take all 4 together. Honey and Sage already have forever homes waiting. Pumpkin and Java are still looking for their families.

I don’t say that to guilt anyone. I say it because I genuinely don’t understand it, and I think it’s worth sitting with.

Atlas needs someone willing to be patient with him. That’s it. He doesn’t need perfect. He needs consistent. He needs someone who will show up for him and give him the chance to show up for them. 🐾

Gus is heartworm positive — which I know can feel scary — but he is one of the sweetest boys we have ever had come through TWRDA. 🧡 He can live with other dogs, so if you already have a pup at home, that’s not a dealbreaker. We do require proof that your resident dog is on a heartworm preventative — that’s the only ask.

These two dogs went viral. Their faces were seen by more people than live in most cities. And they’re still waiting. 😔
