Congratulations to John Hunter on winning the position of Principal Bass with the Corpus Christi Symphony.

Originally from South Texas, John has performed with regional orchestras throughout the area and remains active as both a teacher and freelance musician in the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex.

🗣️ Reflecting on his audition journey, John shared: “All of this would not have been possible without the help of Sphinx and their constant support through their grants and NAAS.”

He also described attending the audition intensive at New World Symphony and working with Christian Grey and Alexander Kerr as “a life changing experience.”

The 2026 Sphinx Performance Academy at Boston Conservatory at Berklee has begun! 🎻

From June 15-28, students will spend two weeks learning, collaborating, performing, and building community through chamber music, private lessons, masterclasses, and mentorship.

Congratulations to Gabriela Fogo on being appointed Concertmaster of the Orquestra Filarmônica de Goiás.

Gabriela is a Brazilian violinist and educator whose work spans orchestral performance, chamber music, and research focused on Latin American music in pedagogy and performance.

🗣️ Reflecting on her journey, Gabriela shared that participating in SOPA and the NAAS Intensive helped her “refine and strengthen” her musicianship while connecting her with exceptional mentors and opportunities.

We’re excited to celebrate this important next chapter in her artistic career.

Returning to SPA with new goals 🎻

Dori Olana, a 17-year-old violist from Austin, Minnesota, who studies with Andrew Towsey Grishaw, will attend the 2026 Sphinx Performance Academy at Boston Conservatory at Berklee.

After participating in SPA last summer, Dori discovered new confidence in her musicianship and was inspired to pursue further musical studies in college.

This summer, she hopes to strengthen her technical foundation, prepare for upcoming college auditions, and continue learning alongside talented peers from across the country.

This week, Sphinx artists Elena Urioste, Nathan Amaral, Celia Hatton, Sterling Elliott, and Amiri Harewood are preparing for a series of performances across the United Kingdom.

From the first rehearsal to the final performance, chamber music is built through listening, collaboration, and shared artistic vision.
