Functional Fluidics
Defining Red Blood Cell Health
Functional Fluidics was a proud sponsor of the 2024 Sickle Cell Matters Walk, which took place this past weekend. It was an inspiring event, and we were honored to join so many individuals and organizations as we walked into a brighter future for the sickle cell community. Together, we are making strides toward raising awareness and supporting those impacted by sickle cell disease. Thank you to the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America, Michigan Chapter, for organizing such a meaningful event.

🗣 SICKLE CELL IS MORE THAN JUST PAIN. It’s a condition that causes sudden, unpredictable, SEVERE pain, with a risk of premature mortality with EACH crisis ⬇️ ⬇️
To make matters worse, this disorder is completely misunderstood and stigmatized - patients are doubted and mislabeled as drug seekers, adding more stress to a situation which only worsens the pain.
Let’s continue to bring awareness to sickle cell disease in September and every month moving forward.
🎯 Share some stats with your friends and continue to spread awareness. It’s an uphill battle but the change is starting to come 🙏🤍

🚨Sickle Cell Disease Awareness Month🚨
“Without a fundamental change in how we view and treat sickle cell disease, we perpetuate a cycle of neglect and inequity that disproportionately harms marginalized communities.”
📃 Nature Review Disease Primers, 2018
Sickle cell disease (SCD) is more than a medical condition—it is a stark reminder of the health inequities that persist in our society. The disproportionate devestation in communities of color, leads to inadequate care and poor health outcomes.
If you are a healthcare professional, advocate, or ally, keep pushing for systemic change that ensures that every patient receives the care and respect they deserve.
It feels empty to “only” raise awareness; but in doing so, maybe there is a path to action. Maybe we move onward to a place where we can challenge the biases associated with SCD, and advocate for a future where health equity exists for those who have suffered for so long with this catastrophic illness.
