Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when news of emancipation finally reached enslaved African Americans in Texas, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation had been issued.
Juneteenth is a celebration of freedom, resilience, and hope! ❤️🖤💚
Today reminds us that freedom is a call to build communities where dignity is protected, opportunity is shared, and every person has the chance to thrive.
When we support one another and work toward stronger communities, we honor the legacy of those who came before us! ✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿

June is National Homeownership Month! 🏡
At Joy Southfield Community Development Corporation, we believe strong communities start with residents who are empowered to invest in the places they call home.

Together, we're creating neighborhoods where families, businesses, and communities can thrive! 💚

Dear Residents, Vendors, Community Partners, and Supporters,
Joy Southfield Community Development Corporation (JSCDC) would like to provide an update regarding our 2026 Farmers Market season.
Due to funding delays the start of the 2026 Farmers Market season will be postponed by approximately one month. As a result, the Farmers Market is now expected to open during the first week of July 2026 rather than its traditional early June opening.
While we understand this adjustment may be disappointing to some residents and vendors, this additional time will allow JSCDC to finalize funding commitments, complete necessary planning activities, and ensure the market is prepared to provide a safe, successful, and enjoyable experience for all participants.
The Farmers Market remains an important part of our commitment to increasing access to fresh foods, supporting local entrepreneurs, promoting healthy lifestyles, and creating opportunities for community engagement. We appreciate the patience and understanding of our residents, vendors, volunteers, sponsors, and community partners as we work through these temporary challenges.
We anticipate announcing the official opening date, vendor information, and seasonal schedule in the coming weeks.
We encourage community members to continue following JSCDC’s communications channels for updates and announcements regarding the 2026 market season.
Thank you for your continued support of Joy Southfield Community Development Corporation and our efforts to strengthen the Northwest Detroit community.
