The percentage of women CEOs of Fortune 500 companies has hit a new high - 11.7%, the first time it’s met or exceeded 11%.

Newly appointed are Kecia Steelman, Ulta Beauty; Deanna Strable, Principal Financial Group; and Martina Cheung at S&P Global, all of whom were internal candidates.

Eleven percent may not seem like a big number, but as Fortune noted, women are gradually winning more CEO positions - and most of them have moved up through the ranks,
demonstrating the value of leveraging the entire pool of talent.

Congratulations to these impressive leaders and their companies!

Earlier this month, Inforum and our MobilityNEXT industry group were at CES in Las Vegas.

This was our sixth trip to the international show where we were able to convene a networking event connecting women - and men - in mobility and other tech-reliant sectors. Many thanks to Ansys, who hosted the gathering at its booth. With attendees from around the world, CES is an exciting place to spread awareness of Inforum’s mission.

Did you know mentoring doesn’t have to be a long-term commitment to have a profound impact?

If you haven’t already heard of it, let us introduce you to the practice of micro-mentoring.

Micro-mentoring comprises short, targeted mentoring sessions designed to focus on a specific skill.

According to the Academy to Innovate HR, micro-mentoring creates new or additional opportunities for learning and relationship-building that support your career.

Not only does it reduce pressure and the time commitment of maintaining a long-term mentoring relationship, micro-mentoring transfers knowledge in small doses, increasing the likelihood of it being retained.

It can additionally improve job satisfaction and employee morale by directly supporting you in pursuing specific career goals.

Please note, however, that micro-mentoring shouldn’t replace traditional mentoring. It is simply a method of real-time problem solving and targeting specific skill development.

So what do you think? Would you be willing to give micro-mentoring a try?

Hear what Kendra Corman, a marketing strategist, has to say about what she loves about Inforum:

“It just feels real. When I'm there, I'm not putting on some professional act or trying to hand out business cards. I've made friends - actual friends - who I know have my back. Every time I go, I leave feeling energized and thinking 'This is exactly where I need to be.' Inforum is where you find your people.”

Fostering an environment where people can make real connections and build a support network is a crucial part of the events and other opportunities we offer.
