What is the purpose of Black Women Lead?
BWL is a campaign.
We aim to educate the public by spotlighting the incredible yet underrecognized work that Black women do to lead change in their communities.
BWL is a cause.
Glenn E. Martin said, “those closest to the problem are closest to the solution, but furthest from resources and power.” Our hope is that others will be moved to use their resources and power to support the work of Black women who are creating solutions that benefit all of us.
BWL is a network.
There is strength in numbers. We are connecting Black women leaders to each other and to members of the public who want to be allied in their efforts.
BWL is a movement.
Our first campaign cycle is focused on Black women leaders in the city of Detroit, but it won't stop there. Our vision is to create an organizing blueprint that can be adopted by cities across the country so they, too, can elevate the efforts of Black women leaders in their communities.
