SMART is committed to providing quality bus service to keep people moving and to provide the citizens of the region with the best transit options possible.
Serving since 1967, SMART is Southeast Michigan’s only regional public transportation provider, offering convenient, reliable and safe transportation for Macomb, Oakland and Wayne Counties. SMART’s Fixed-Route and small bus services connect people to employment and educational institutions. SMART is supported by federal and state funding, local contributions through a transit property tax millage
🚍 Transit gaps don't just create inconvenience, they can create barriers to opportunity.
Wayne County, Michigan's County Executive Warren C. Evans and SMART CEO Tiffany J Gunter continue to highlight the real impact that fragmented transit service has on residents who rely on public transportation every day.
When communities opt out of SMART service, routes can't always travel directly where riders need to go. Instead, passengers may face longer travel times, additional transfers, and confusing route patterns just to reach jobs, healthcare appointments, grocery stores, and educational opportunities.
A stronger, more connected transit network means fewer barriers and more opportunities for everyone across Wayne County.

Public transit is more than transportation, it's an investment in our community.
The proposed Wayne County SMART millage generates approximately $57 million annually, helping fund transit services that connect people to work, school, healthcare, and everyday destinations.
Revenue collected in Detroit remains in Detroit, projected at approximately $8 million annually to support local transit needs.
