Volunteer opportunity! Spend a couple hours on Friday evening helping native plants in the Arboretum push back against invasives.
This is a recurring event weekly, with changing locations depending on the needs of the parks.
This week we are meeting in Treetroit One, at 5300 Elmwood st. 48211
Bring a water bottle, gloves, and a good attitude. Or a bad one. We can work with both. Sometimes you just want to be around plants and not talk to humans. That's cool.
Unwind from the week and get grounded for your weekend with your hands in the earth.
Learn plants! You will be shown how to identify the plant(s) you will be removing, and share plant knowledge with each other.
You will breathe with the trees and witness the insects and birds loving their best life.

The Filter Forest Boulderscape is a set of three islands of boulders with gravel around them, connected by beams. A way to play and be with the most solid building blocks of Earth. Thanks to an awesome team of McLaren engineers for volunteering a day of their time to piece the borders of these islands together.
There's a bench for parents/sibs/caregivers to sit while the little ones play. Thanks to St Aubin Woodworks for the beautiful and comfortable seat.
And we now have a beautiful natural trunk archway at the Arboretum's South entrance, constructed by Aaron Brown. This is the entrance into Patiense Grove (now a part of Filter Fores) off Warren and Elmwood.
We planted ornamental grasses at the entrance, and .... the work continues..:)
A huge thank you to and the for supporting all of this in our neighborhood parks with the Neighborhood Beautification Grant.
Come out and enjoy the beauty and peace as trees are growing to soften the traffic noise and pollution of Warren ave. Drape yourself over a boulder and feel the grounding power of the Earth and yourself as a part of it. Get your balance on as you walk the beams from island to island. Have a tea and listen to the bird song sitting on the bench. All are welcome.

Cecropia Moth in Oxygen Alley!
These native moths are about 4-6" big. They are in their adult moth form for only two weeks, during which they only mate and lay eggs, so they don't even have mouths because they don't eat.
However, they are in their caterpillar form for two months, eating leaves from trees, and sporting colorful spikes that look dangerous but are harmless.
They spin themselves into a cocoon for the whole winter, to emerge as moths in the spring.
Male cecropia moths can "smell" a female's pheromones from two miles away, making finding a mate easier.
So excited to have a habitat for these incredible creatures in our neighborhood.
