Day Eleven
We started our day with the Jeep not starting - no power from the battery. This was a recurring problem with my Jeep and, much like the movie āAfrican Queenā when Humphrey Bogart would kick the boiler to get it going, I had my battery fix method. Even though it was easily fixed (usually) there was always the worry that the battery was dead....

Day Eight
We had spent the night in the mediocre Super 8 motel in Grants. I donāt remember much about the motel, other than it appeared better than the overpriced Best Western next door with their unimpressive service (I have nothing against Best Western or Super 8, but these were subpar). The overall experience in Grants, however, was superpar (I think I just invented that word)....

Trail to Church Rock Econolodge had been a great deal. Room cost somewhere around $80 and included free breakfast. Not just a pastry or a piece of fruit. Day Six
After packing up our tent and paying for our spot, we left the campground and headed back to the south rim trail and then did a little driving and exploring of the Grand Canyon village. We left the park after 9:30 am and headed to Tusayan to gas up and grab some breakfast. The Foodie Club looked like a good place to eat but they had some kind of covid restrictions - I believe the vax required - so we picked up food at the gas station and headed to Flagstaff....

Day Four
Black Volcano We left Hotel Albuquerque at about 10:15 am, after taking some pics in various locations on the main floor. We drove to the Petroglyph National Monument visitor center with the plan to do some hiking. As it turned out, we didnāt hike the petroglyph trails; either they were closed due to covid or we had to be vaccinated or some such thing - I forget which....

Spring 2021 Road-trip to Albuquerque
One year ago yesterday (June 5, 2021 - it was a Saturday) I set out on my first trip to Albuquerque in 33 years. Initially it was meant to be a trip down old route 66 but, due to time constraints, we took the route that my grandfather took us on when I was a kid - that being I-55 to I-44 to I-40, roughly along the old Route 66....
