Fort Des Moines Museum

Learning shouldn’t stop just because it’s summer… Did you know?!

Fort Des Moines Museum (rooted right here in Des Moines’ Southside) holds national significance as the first military base in the United States to train Black officers during World War I, and later became the training ground for the Women’s Army Corps during World War II, making it a historic site for both Black and women service members.

This weekend, during the 250th anniversary of the US Army, many gathered for a Historical Marker Celebration at Fort Des Moines. To stand on this sacred ground was a powerful reminder of how far we’ve come and the significant work that still lies ahead!

Join us and the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Iowa & Jurisdiction, F & AM, Zeta Kappa Lambda Chapter - Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., Eighth District of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc, Des Moines Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated at the Fort Des Moines Museum.
