Well, even after 20 years, Facebook is not slowing down...

Here are 5 important Facebook updates that could impact your business in 2024:

1️⃣ "𝗔𝗗-𝗙𝗥𝗘𝗘" 𝗙𝗔𝗖𝗘𝗕𝗢𝗢𝗞:
𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗛𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗱?

In response to privacy laws in Europe, Facebook launched an ad-free version of the platform. Users can pay between $10-20 per month to have all ads (and tracking) removed.

𝗪𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗬𝗼𝘂?

It's unclear if this paid-for Facebook will roll out beyond the EU, but if so estimates suggest that about 1-3% of all users will choose to remove ads. That might sound insignificant, but could mean over 100 MILLION people will be unreachable by FB ads in the future.

Meta just announced that it hit a record "daily active user" count... 3.1 BILLION people. It set record highs with Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp daily users.

If you use any Meta platforms for lead gen, you're likely to see more opportunity going forward since Meta is actively working to increase the number of daily active users across all of its platforms.

Using its massive investment in AI, Facebook has begun testing new features and versions of the platform VERY QUICKLY. In fact, Zuck recently said that they have over 10,000 versions of FB being tested with users each day.

𝗪𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗬𝗼𝘂?

All these tests will lead to helpful platform improvements long-term, but will also likely mean more bugs in the short-term.

Facebook recently announced that its "Group API" will be removed within the next 90 days.

𝗪𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗬𝗼𝘂?

Many apps that rely on that API will become unusable. For example, those that allow you to schedule posts, live stream, comment, or reply to users inside your groups could stop working.

"Cookies" have traditionally been used by advertisers to track users' online behaviour and retarget those users with appropriate ads. However, due to increasing privacy concerns, cookies are being killed off by web browsers.

Facebook is now introducing a cookie-replacement called "Link History" that will help advertisers still reach targeted leads.

𝗪𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗬𝗼𝘂?

As a consumer, if you're concerned about privacy, Facebook is giving you the option to turn off Link History so that advertisers can't see what you're clicking online.

As an advertiser, you'll want to keep an eye on Link History as it rolls out. This could reduce your ad costs by allowing you to target more precisely.
