🌲 Discover Broadview Farm Like Never Before: Join Our Local BioBlitz! 🕵️‍♂️🌿

Ever wondered exactly how many different wild things live right here in Derry? On Saturday, June 27th, we’re on a mission to find out—and we need your help!

If you’ve never heard the word "BioBlitz" before, don’t worry! It’s just a fun, fast-paced nature scavenger hunt.

Think of it as a giant, community snapshot of nature. Neighbors, families, and nature lovers team up to find as many living thing on a property as they can within a single day. Every plant, bug, bird, and tree we spot helps us understand our local environment is and how to protect it. You don’t need to be a scientist to join in—you just need a camera and a sense of adventure!

🗺️ Choose Your Adventure: 4 Guided Sessions
We have broken the day into four exciting, expert-led sessions. Come for one, or stay for them all!

🦅 8:30 AM – Bird Walk: Grab your binoculars! We’ll be listening and looking for the beautiful birds that call Broadview's forests and fields home.

🌱 10:00 AM – Plants, Shrubs, & Trees: From the unique wildflowers in the meadows to the towering trees, we'll map out Broadview's amazing greenery.

🐸 1:00 PM – Vernal Pools: Let's get a closer look at these unique, temporary wetlands to spot frogs, salamanders, and the fascinating creatures that live in the water.

🐝 2:30 PM – Bugs, Butterflies, & Bees: We'll wrap up the afternoon sweeping the fields to document our local pollinators and creepy-crawlies.

📱 Our Secret Weapon: iNaturalist
We’ll be using a free, super easy smartphone app called iNaturalist to track our findings.

You don't need to know the official name of what you're looking at! All you do is take a picture of a leaf, a colorful butterfly, or a frog through the app. The app’s clever tech helps identify it, and local experts verify it. Just like that, your photo becomes a piece of real scientific data for Derry!

Good morning! We will be meeting tonight and invite all of you to join us.

During this meeting we will have training for the iNaturlaist App which we will use for our upcoming Bioblitz at Broadview Farm Conservation Area on JUNE 27TH. This is a fun app that will help identify all sorts of wonderful things in nature. You can download the iNaturlaist App from the Apple Store or Play Store.

One of our beautiful trails dawns the name of Margaret Ives, a prominent community servant.

Property Name: Margaret Ives Conservation Land

Description: Wooded land with a stand of large hemlock trees. From the Gulf Road trailhead the land slopes steeply to a small stream, which feeds into a prime wetland. The “Line Storm Trail” starts on Gulf Road and makes a loop around the property. The trail and trailhead sign were built by Josh Gallien of BSA Troop 402 as an Eagle Scout project.

The Derry Conservation Commission takes healthy forests seriously. Part of our job as a Commission is to maintain the forests in Derry, and sometimes that actually means cutting down trees. Dead wood from fallen trees is often times a richer habit than even their living counterparts. Our skilled Department of Public Works offers great assistance with these jobs, and on the occasions that we need to seek more specialized knowledge and equipment, we always try to hire a Derry-based business.

We were there promoting the upcoming Bioblitz at Broadview Farm and giving away handbooks on invasive species.

So many great folks came out tonight, and its so wonderful to see the Derry community come together.
