Hey! My name is Evan and I want to help you with your musical journey.
My specialties include guitar instruction, music production, songwriting, electronics for audio, and making music accessible to all skill levels.
One thing that I've realized about playing guitar (that can be applied to everything in life) is that is will never be more difficult than the first time you pick it up.
Every time after that, it will become easier and easier, showing the value of consistent practice and how progress can incredibly motivating.
Warming up with one of my favorite riffs to play - Blood and Thunder by Mastodon!
This is the first song off of their 2004 record, Leviathan, and is super chunky and heavy.
This riff is based around the D Aeolian scale with a flat 9, while the second half is almost exclusively a diminished pattern. It uses techniques such as power chords, ostinato chugging, palm muting, sliding, octaves, and bending/vibrato on the very last note, making for a deceptively difficult riff.
