High Park

The Chip Site at High Park will be closed Thursday, June 11, Friday, June 12 and Saturday June 13 due to the Smoke on the Plains BBQ & Music Fest. There will be no access to the parking lot as we will have 60 BBQ teams using it for the competition.

Our new splash pad, playground, and pickleball courts are open and already bringing plenty of smiles, laughter, and excitement to local families. We love seeing kids and adults enjoying these new spaces and making memories all summer long!

As a reminder, parents and guardians should actively supervise children while they play. Please note that the playground slide can be quite fast, so use caution and make sure children are using equipment appropriate for their age and comfort level.

The newly opened splash pad has been a hit today. Unfortunately, the chemical treatment process was not able to keep up with the demand. The splash pad will remain off until the water quality is in compliance. We appreciate your patience.

The Chip Site will be closed for Memorial Day Weekend, May 23-25th.

If you are looking to rent a facility in a City park, there are a few changes beginning Monday, May 18.

To rent a building or shelter at High Park, Madison Avenue Central Park or Warren Riverview Park, visit MeetinDerby.com to start the process and check availability on the online calendar.

In the past, facility rentals at High Park were handled by the Derby Recreation Commission, but this is being completed by the Rental Coordinator at the Derby Public Library. If you are looking to reserve a ballfield at High Park, those reservations will continue to be handled by the Derby Recreation Commission by calling 788-3781 or visiting www.derbyrec.com/142/Rentals.

After recent actions by the City Council, rental rates for some of the parks facilities have changed, including the newly renovated Darrell Zimmerman Family Shelter. There are two remodeled family bathrooms, a new serving area (stove and microwave were removed), refrigerator, fireplace, picnic tables, and new garage doors and pergola on the east side. The shelter is in a prime location by the new splash pad and playground. An additional parking lot is located southeast of the shelter as well.

Exciting progress at High Park! New playground equipment is being installed, and everything is really starting to come together.

Sedgwick County Environmental Resources is once again offering convenient drop-off locations for Christmas tree recycling. After you’ve enjoyed your real tree this holiday season, recycle it and help turn it into mulch!

Please remember to remove all lights, ornaments, and decorations before dropping off your tree. While you’re there, take advantage of FREE mulch!
