Derby Community Endowment
Created by the citizens of Derby in 2012 to provide extra funding for city beautification and for Derby students.
The endowment fund will be held by the Valley Community Foundation. Once a year a percent will be disbursed to the City of Derby for scholarships/awards, non-recurring school expenses, and city beautification and capital projects. An endowment fund is a way to store money and take advantage of market gains rather than low checking or savings account interest rates. A donation to the endowment fund
Each year our fund held by the Valley Community Foundation receives a check for $1000+ that goes to Derby City Hall. We then use that check to help schools and support the community, in particular the Hall of Fame plaza. This year we're supporting some special education purchases at Bradley school, and we'll again have 2 $100 awards to graduating seniors who are service oriented.
Our endowment fund as of Friday, November 8th, has $29,421.16.

Hello friends of the Derby Community Endowment! We've recently helped support a dry-erase table at Irving school, and will be awarding two "service awards" to two graduating seniors. Here are the Irving project details: https://www.donorschoose.org/project/the-write-fit/5310860/
Also, I can't help but share articles I find of cool long-term thinking. This one is about a science experiment that's 142 years old. https://www.npr.org/2021/04/21/989333092/the-secret-mission-to-unearth-part-of-a-142-year-old-experiment?
The Secret Mission To Unearth Part Of A 142-Year-Old Experiment Scientists in Michigan went out in the dead of night to dig up part of an unusual long-term experiment. It's a research study that started in 1879 and is handed from one generation to the next.
