FOUND RUSSIAN TORTOISE – OWNER STILL NEEDED
On June 9, 2026, this Russian Tortoise was found wandering in the area of Westfield Road and Main Street in Amherst, NY. The finder discovered the tortoise sitting in their driveway and immediately began trying to locate the original owner.
Efforts included posting on the Nextdoor app and in the WNY Lost and Found Pets Facebook group. Unfortunately, no owner has come forward, so Peculiar Pets Sanctuary has stepped in to provide care while we continue the search.
We want to stress that tortoises are AMAZING walkers and can travel surprisingly long distances. Just because this tortoise was found in Amherst does not necessarily mean they escaped from a nearby home. They are capable of covering much more ground than many people realize!
This little one appears to be in very good condition and has clearly been well cared for. We are hopeful that someone is missing their beloved pet and simply hasn't seen the posts yet.
