Showcasing the Blue Spruce Habitat for Humanity Duplex designed to raise the standards of homes built for the underserved. Focusing on three main tenets, Energy & Sustainability, Livability, and Constructability, the duplex design demonstrates a high-performance, high-quality home that can be built with volunteer labor on a difficult-to-access site and a moderate budget. As the winning entry of a competition organized by AIA Denver, COTE, and Housing subcommittees, and as the 2013 AIA National Convention Host Chapter Legacy Project, this duplex benefitted from exposure that extended beyond the architectural community and engaged people from all walks of life, illuminating the possibilities available for volunteer-built housing.
