Protecting Colorado Parents Beyond the Hospital Walls 🏔️❤️
Did you know that the risk for medical complications, mental health concerns, and substance use remains elevated for a full year after having a baby? In fact, nearly 57% of maternal deaths in the U.S. occur between 7 and 365 days postpartum—often after families have finished their traditional obstetric follow-ups.
The Colorado Quick Care Card is a simple, life-saving tool designed to bridge this gap.
What is it? It’s a portable card for new parents to keep with their ID or insurance card. It lists critical "Red Flag" warning signs and provides a QR code linking families and emergency providers to immediate resources and clinical protocols.
🚩 When to seek help immediately:
Call 911 or go to the ER for:
Chest pain or difficulty breathing
Seizures
Blood pressure higher than 160/110
Thoughts of harming yourself or your baby

Every birthing person in Colorado deserves a healthy start. 🤍 Our new report with the Omni Institute shows that our Turning the Tide program is helping hospitals provide vital screenings and life-saving referrals. 94% of patients at participating hospitals are now being screened for substance use, ensuring they get the care they need before leaving the hospital. Check out the findings that show how we are "Turning the Tide" on overdose deaths in our state. 🌊
