33 food share sites this month. 🥬

But that’s not all we do.

We rescue food. We grow food. We reduce waste. We support local farmers and gardens. We connect neighbors to resources. And we build stronger, community-led food systems.

Food shares are part of our work. Food justice is the bigger picture. 🌱💛

🌻 Kaizen will be CLOSED tomorrow, Monday, September 7, in observance of Labor Day.

Labor Day is more than the unofficial end of summer. It grew out of the labor movement and the organizing of workers who fought for dignity, fairer working conditions, reasonable hours, and recognition of the people whose labor keeps our communities running.

The first Labor Day celebration took place in New York City on September 5, 1882. As the labor movement grew, states began recognizing the holiday, and in 1894 Congress made the first Monday in September a federal holiday honoring the social and economic contributions of American workers.

At Kaizen, we know our work doesn’t happen without labor.

💛 The drivers who pick up rescued food
💛 The volunteers who lift, sort, pack, and distribute thousands of pounds
💛 The farmers and farmworkers who grow and harvest our food
💛 The warehouse and grocery workers who keep food moving
💛 The community members who show up week after week to take care of their neighbors

Tomorrow, we honor that labor by giving our team and volunteers time to rest.

Because rest matters, too. 💛

We’ll see you after the holiday. Please enjoy a safe and restful Labor Day. 🌱

🥕 Food is more than food. It is culture, connection, dignity, and care.

On National Food Bank Day, we want to recognize the partnerships that have helped Kaizen Food Rescue / Kaizen Food Share grow into the community-led food access organization we are today.

For more than 7 years, Food Bank of the Rockies and the Feeding America network have supported our work to rescue and redistribute food across our communities. 💛

At Kaizen, we believe food access works best when communities are not simply recipients, but partners and leaders. Our food shares are rooted in mutual aid, cultural responsiveness, dignity, and the understanding that all of us will give and receive help at different moments in our lives.

No single organization can address hunger alone. It takes food banks, farmers, food rescue organizations, volunteers, community partners, donors, and neighbors moving food and resources together.

Thank you, Food Bank of the Rockies and Feeding America, for being part of this work with us for 7+ years. 🥬🍎🥑

Good food belongs on community tables. 💛 Food Bank of the Rockies Feeding America

🍉 Same watermelon. Different flavors. Different traditions.

One of our favorite things about food is how one simple ingredient can show up differently across cultures. Here are two easy ways to enjoy watermelon inspired by flavors familiar across our communities. ❤️

Vietnamese Inspired
🍉 Fresh watermelon
🧂 A small pinch of salt
🌶️ Chili salt or muối ớt
🍋‍🟩 Squeeze of lime, optional

Sweet, salty, spicy and refreshing. Dip your watermelon into a little chili salt and enjoy!

🇲🇽 Latin Inspired
🍉 Fresh watermelon
🍋‍🟩 Fresh lime juice
🌶️ Tajín or chili powder
🧂 Pinch of salt

Cut, season and enjoy cold.

Food doesn’t have to be complicated to carry culture. Sometimes it’s fresh fruit, familiar flavors and the way our families taught us to eat it. 🍉❤️

How did your family eat watermelon growing up?

Nintai (忍耐) is the Japanese practice of patience, endurance, and perseverance.

It reminds us that meaningful change rarely happens overnight. It is built through quiet determination, the choice to keep showing up, keep caring, and keep moving forward, even when progress feels slow.

At Kaizen, nintai lives in every volunteer who returns, every neighbor who helps another, and every small action that becomes part of something bigger.

Patience is not passive. Sometimes, it is the strongest form of persistence. 🌱

🥑 $330,927 in food value redirected

🍲 91,924 equivalent meals shared

🌱 182 MTCO₂e saved (43 cars off the road for a year)

Good food belongs on community tables, not rotting in landfills.

Together, we’re feeding families and healing our environment at the same time. Thank you to everyone helping us turn surplus into strength.

Sometimes the person receiving help today is the person offering help tomorrow. 💛

That is the heart of mutual aid. It is neighbors sharing resources, knowledge, time, and care because everyone’s well-being is connected. It is not based on one group having all the answers while another group only receives.

At a food share, mutual aid can look like a family picking up groceries and later returning to help distribute them. It can be a gardener sharing extra produce, a neighbor translating information, or volunteers checking on elders who cannot leave home.

People are not defined by what they need in one moment. We all move between giving and receiving throughout our lives.
