Today would have been Octavia Butler’s birthday.

We found this formerly library copy of Kindred, which has already lived several lives.

A librarian shelved it ➡ A reader checked it out.

A teacher may have assigned it ➡ A student may have argued about it.

A book club may have passed it around.

Now it’s here, waiting for the next person.

What feels especially fitting about Butler is that so much of her work asks a simple question:

**What do we owe each other?**

Her stories explored community, resilience, education, and the ways people build better futures together… even when the world feels uncertain.

This worn copy is proof that books don’t change communities by sitting on shelves, but by moving through them.

What is a book that you feel could help our community if it found its way into someone’s hands?

Finding more than Alice in Wonderland…

In this copy of Alice in Wonderland printed in 1905, we found this photograph.

We don’t know who these people are or how long this book has held it, but for decades, it wasn’t just a book: It carried a memory.

The bliss of secondhand is that there are traces of what people left behind. Bookmarks, flowers, and sometimes, literally, breadcrumbs of their journey, and this book was there for it.

What have you found or hidden in a book?

A healthy reading community is bigger than any bookstore!

It’s libraries, schools, coffee shops, book clubs, local authors, art spaces, neighborhood gatherings, and curious people showing up for one another.

Every weekend, we’ll share a few ways to connect with that community!

This week, we are featuring:

Did we miss one you are excited about? Drop it in the comments!

BookTok is over. SaladTok is in.

Apparently.

Gwyneth Paltrow can use arugula as a dairy substitute (WUT), but that doesn't mean arugula is a suitable replacement for everything like calendar development, spicy romance, or bookmarks.

The conspiracy salad better not come for libraries.

Excuses to buy books are our favorite material to recycle!

It is World Environment Day, and as a sustainability-focused company, we prioritize saving it!

We receive damaged books, packaging material, and other media that cannot be reused, so we take care of their last journey on donation. We work with companies that recycle books into insulation, molded pulp, and even roofing tiles!

Make a donation and maybe find a lonely book (or three!) in our storefront that needs you, and will stay under budget!

Recycling Your Stories (and reducing landfill waste) for over 15 years!

World Bicycle Day 🤝 World Running Day

Humans invented all sorts of ways to move fast, but electively go back to running and biking.

Why?

It is never just about the movement.

Sometimes, it is about the donkey.

But more often, it is about the journey!

We have some fun recommendations for a variety of journeys and others for the runner/biker!

Happy Birthday to Norton Juster, who accidentally gifted children curiosity as a personality trait.

Time can be stolen.
Words matter.
Math can be weirdly cool.
Boredom is a choice.
Road trips are pretty awesome.

And the Phantom Tollbooth captured all of it.

📚 Swipe for books that capture some of that same magic, wit, curiosity, and delightful nonsense.
