RIBBON CUTTING |
Alderfer/Three Sisters Park West Trailhead Ribbon Cutting

The West Trailhead at Alderfer/Three Sisters Park is now open to the public just in time for the busy summer season! County Commissioner Lesley Dahlkemper did the honor of cutting the ribbon to begin a new chapter for the Park. Park improvements include a new permeable paving parking lot, replacing the existing restroom and kiosk, park shelters, signage, preservation of the historic Alderfer barn and updated Bluebird Meadow and Wild Iris Trails.
The shelters are still under construction at this time, with Gooseberry and Kinnikinnick shelters expected to be completed in June and Foxtail and Poppy shelters expected to be completed in July. Once complete, Foxtail and Poppy Shelters will be reservable through the Evergreen Parks and Recreation District. 
Near the heart of Evergreen, Alderfer/Three Sisters Park has stunning vistas, landmark rock formations, beautiful old stands of Ponderosa Pine, and the most trails per acre of any foothills park. It's time to lace up your hiking boots and check it out!

CLEAN UP | Volunteer Harvard Gulch Park Clean Up

Valerian stepped up to show some serious love for Harvard Gulch Park, tackling a trio of park care essentials. From keeping the grounds pristine to setting up the park for long-term health, Valerian was able to assist with the following tasks:

•Trash Cleanup: Clearing litter to keep the park beautiful and safe for local wildlife.

•Tree Mulching: Giving our leafy friends the nutrients and moisture retention they need to thrive.

•Trail Maintenance: Enhancing the paths so everyone in the community can enjoy a smooth, accessible stroll.
It’s dedicated volunteers who keep our Denver Parks vibrant, clean, and welcoming for everyone.

GES SPRING FEST | Fiesta De Primavera
The Globeville Elyria Swansea (GES) Coalition and BirdSeed Collective recently hosted a vibrant community celebration, weaving together art, music, food, and culture in the heart of Globeville. It was a beautiful afternoon dedicated to community and connection.
Valerian attended with our partners, OV consulting, and DOTI to share the latest plans and upcoming construction schedule for the 48th Avenue Greenway. With construction anticipated to begin this Summer/Fall, we are thrilled to see this project moving forward!

CHERRY CREEK RACE FOR THE WATERSHED |
Valerian sponsored and participated in the 5K walk/fun run again this year to support the Colorado Association of Stormwater and Floodplain Managers Scholarship Fund!
SEMSWA and Cherry Creek Stewardship Partners invited their partner organizations within the Cherry Creek Basin to participate and extended the invitation to any interested staff members, family, or friends.
Participants of all ages and fitness levels had the choice to run or walk at Cherry Creek State Park on a beautiful Saturday afternoon for a great cause!

MILE HIGH FLOOD DISTRICT SYMPOSIUM 2026 |

Valerian braved the late spring snowstorm to attend this year’s MHFD Annual Symposium, and it might have been the best one yet!

From discussing the nuances of beaver management to exploring what the Stream Management Academy has been up to lately, the day was packed with inspiration.
We were especially thrilled to celebrate Don Schafer from Naranjo Civil Constructors for winning the MHFD Lifetime Achievement Award. We see firsthand the hard work and heart Don puts into every project, and we couldn’t be happier for him!

Reconnecting with our community and sharing new strategies is what keeps our work fresh. Cheers to another year of innovation!

BILLY CORDOVA MEMORIAL PARK | 2026 Colorado Lottery Starburst Award

We are incredibly honored to announce that Billy Cordova Memorial Park has officially won the 2026 Colorado Lottery Starburst Award!

This recognition is a testament to what happens when a community comes together with a shared vision. Huge congratulations and a heartfelt "hats off" to:

•The Cordova Family for their inspiration and heart.

•The Community Members who dedicated years of their time and energy to make this park from a dream into a reality.

We are so proud to have been part of this journey to create a meaningful space that honors local legacy and serves the community for generations to come.

GLOBEVILLE DEVELOPMENT GROUNDBREAKING CELEBRATION |

On April 18th, Valerian and DOTI attended a public community celebration with music, booths, and speeches hosted at Project Angel Heart. The event was to celebrate a new five-story, 170-unit mixed-use community that will transform a city-owned parcel on the site of a former car dealership into housing for families earning between 30% and 80% of the area median income. Approximately half of the homes will offer larger three- and four-bedroom floor plans, with the balance comprising one and two-bedroom residences. The lower level will feature the first permanent Denver Public Library Globeville Branch in the Globeville neighborhood. It will also include a community cafe, owned by Tierra Colectiva.
Completion is expected in fall 2027 and we’re looking forward to see the project develop!

EARTH DAY 2026 | Every day is earth day at Valerian! This year our office will be volunteering at Harvard Gulch Park to give back to the community and support this beautiful, healthy space for residents to thrive. This project will involve multiple tasks including mulching tree rings, painting, trail maintenance, weeding, trash pick up, and more!
