The Historic Peabody Whitehead Mansion renovation is complete! Join us this weekend at the Open House of the most haunted building in Denver. At the historic Peabody Mansion, Zaga Design Group addressed a structural header failure that had led to water infiltration and deterioration of the original windows.

To preserve the building’s historic fenestration, we designed an interior steel frame that stabilized the wall assembly while maintaining the original window openings. This allowed the historic windows to be fully restored without altering their character.

We recently completed a thoughtful pop-top renovation in Denver’s Harkness Heights neighborhood for a family seeking more space in their newly purchased bungalow. The project came at a pivotal time, as a new neighborhood design overlay had just been implemented, reducing the allowable bulk plane and maximum height for second-story additions. Through close collaboration with our clients and intentional use of dormers, which were allowed to pierce the bulk plane, we were able to create compliant, light-filled upper-level living spaces while introducing unique interior roof forms that shape the character of the new floor.
The scope included 1,000 sf of an upper-level addition, a full 1,4000-square-foot main-level remodel, and a 1,400 sf basement dig-out for added livable space, along with a new rear covered patio and a redesigned front porch. The completed home now includes 5 bedrooms and 4.5 baths, thoughtfully tailored to support family life across three fully renovated levels. Zaga also provided full construction administration services, including lender draw reviews and site observations throughout the build. We were proud to collaborate once again with our trusted partners at to bring this project to life.

We recently completed a side addition with partial two-story expansion to a historic home in Denver’s Berkeley neighborhood, where honoring the original architecture was central to the design. The existing 2,400 sf residence was originally built in 1891 and features a distinctive two-story turret, which the clients were committed to preserving and complementing. In response, we designed the addition with a smaller, balanced turret form that echoes the character of the original home while creating a seamless architectural conversation between old and new.
The addition includes 675 sf of new man-level space, 300 sf on the second floor, and 675 sf in the basement, and introduces a new primary suite with an attached office located within the new turret space. A new upper-level flex room was also incorporated to provide long-term adaptability as the family’s needs evolve. We also designed a new outdoor kitchen and living area at the rear of the home to extend the living experience outdoors. We were proud to bring this project to life in collaboration with Grove Remodeling, which resulted in a playful yet respectful expansion that celebrates the home’s historic roots while supporting modern living.

Design Forge Collaboration Holiday Activity - This year’s spin-the-wheel gingerbread house challenge determined the sketch for the gingerbread house needed to be a Municipal Art Deco building, with stucco exterior, including design elements of a turret, a chimney, and holiday décor of holiday lights and elves. From initial sketch to final build, the team collaborated to bring this concept to life.
