Comicfest Denver

ComicFest Denver was part of StarFest conventions. Sadly 2022 was the last after 45 years. This is the final voyage for StarFest which began in 1977.

Part of the larger StarFest pop-culture entertainment convention, ComicFest started in 2009 as a celebration of comic book writers, artists, collectors, and fans. ComicFest offers convention attendees an intimate and rich con experience. A dealer room stocked with a selection of vintage and modern toys, comic books, & collectables, panels discussing trends in comics to Q&A with guests, artist alley with talent from mainstream comics to local independent art, and incredible national guests.

I've been off Facebook for awhile but just heard about Stephen H Walker sudden death. My heart is heavy and grieve for his family. The world lost a wonderful human.

Stephen Walker Obituary, Death – Stephen Howard Walker, 64, died unexpectedly but quietly at home on Monday, February 20, 2023.
Stephen was born on November 25, 1958, in El Paso, Texas, to loving parents Stephen and Roxanna.

He grew up in Puerto Rico, Los Angeles, Salt Lake City, and Colorado, among other places. In 1983, he founded his first company, Starland, and married his loving wife, KathE. At the same time, he inherited his two boys, Michael and Stephen. The family spent the next many years selling Star Trek items all over the world and conducting Star Trek conferences in Colorado, Montana, South Dakota, and Australia, particularly. Stephen and his family began their next journey in 1992 when they opened many commercial Haunted Houses in the Denver metro area.

The first haunted house, Alien Fear, was immediately next door to the Starland store. Following the popularity of the first haunted house, many others were built, including The Asylum, The Catacombs, The 25th Hour, Slaughterhouse Gulch, and the most successful haunted house, The 13th Door. Stephen’s family grew during this time, with the arrival of his daughters-in-law, Treecy and Jesse, and grandchildren, Stephanie, Kari, Daniel, and Gage.

Together with Haunted Homes and the Starfest Sci-Fi Festivals, Stephen was a part of the third family endeavor, Mile High Trailers, in 2007. This company flourished swiftly, and the family finally relocated it to Kiowa, Colorado, where it had much more opportunity to grow. Stephen’s family expanded during this time as well, with the addition of his great-grandchildren Hunter and Blake. Computers, running in the Boulder Bolder, and table tennis were among Stephen’s early interests. Stephen won the Colorado State Table Tennis Championship in 1993. As a dad, he enjoyed waterskiing, wakeboarding, 4 wheelings, snow skiing, and scuba diving with his sons and granddaughters and especially enjoyed vacationing at Ridgeway State Park.

He also owned many pets, including his pot-bellied pig, Ziggy. Stephen later enjoyed golf and even managed to stand up on a surfboard in Hawaii! He also enjoyed playing Fortnite with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Stephen was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He presided over the University Hills Ward as Bishop for seven years. He enjoyed getting to know all of the members of his ward and serving them as spiritual leaders and friends. Stephen served as the First Counselor in the Denver Colorado Stake Stake Presidency for the last 9 years. He was frequently appointed to speak in several wards throughout the Denver area, and he enjoyed sharing personal tales and tying them to the Gospel.
