A little about this Sunday's worship service...
During Pride month in our nation, we at Messiah join our voices to the celebration. This Sunday, our worship will include the voices and reflections of young q***r folks and young allies who were surveyed by our RIC Team. The theme of the service is titled, “Promises fulfilled and new ones made here at Messiah!”
If you're curious about the title, you will understand once you hear what they had to say. A member of our RIC Team asked if we might ask youth about their lives in the current political climate and what it meant for q***r and allied kids - a great question and a vital idea…
So, before we wrote anything based on our experience, we listened (the youth ranged in age 14-24), asking what it was like growing up in the last decade, as a q***r kid or an ally. Come hear the hope and joy they have to share as we worship this Sunday.
Thanks be to God for all those God calls beloved - and for the opportunity we have to accompany one another.

Happy Pride from Messiah!

The Second Annual Messiah Plant sale was a great success, with over $1000 raised for the Greater Park Hill Food Bank. Feeding the neighborhood and making it a bit greener. Thanks to all who came out!

It's been 50 days since Easter, which makes today Pentecost Sunday. Come and worship!

The wisdom of the mystics is a gift to us in these days. Julian of Norwich is one such mystic, whose radical trust in the Divine sustained her through some of the most devastating days Europe's history. Today we consider the gospel through her eyes.

The Christian faith has never been just sitting and waiting for Jesus to do all the doing. Jesus calls, invites, and entrusts us with the ministry of love - not all on our own, but with an Advocate, the Spirit of truth. It's an incredible thing, really, for the Almighty to not be about power-over but rather, about a powerful call to "Come, do as I do. Love as I love." We're in this together.

It is so easy, in these days, to carry anger and bitterness over the state of things. It happens to me all the time. It's a state of mind and spirit that can weigh so heavy and eat away at us from the inside out.
When I think of Jesus as The Way, it means a way that doesn't give all my energy to the drama that wants to make me bitter. It means keeping my gaze fixed on what is bigger than all the nonsense. We don't ignore the nonsense, but neither do we let it run the show in our hearts and minds.
We belong to the One who is Love. Let us remember today and as often as necessary to turn our gaze back here.
Love is stronger than death and the death-dealing ways of this world.

This is the day the Lord has made!
Today we give thanks to God for the gift of the earth and recommit ourselves to caring well for it.
