Judge Orders VA to Reinstate Union Contract for 320,000 Workers
A federal judge has ordered the Department of Veterans Affairs to restore a collective bargaining agreement covering more than 320,000 employees represented by the American Federation of Government Employees’ National VA Council.
U.S. District Judge Melissa DuBose issued a preliminary injunction Friday reinstating the union’s master contract and related agreements that VA Secretary Doug Collins terminated last August. She found that the union is likely to succeed in its claim that the action was unlawful.

In her decision, Judge DuBose of the U.S. District Court for the District of Rhode Island found that the termination “seems substantially motivated by the Plaintiffs’ history and frequency of vocally opposing changes to labor policies” and may have violated the First Amendment and the Administrative Procedure Act.
