I’ve gone a little silent here for a bit.
First, it was the holidays.
Then, it was a personal issue.
And now, I've been struggling with what to say.
How do I talk about days of happiness, celebration, and love when our country is falling apart?
How do I represent my business and stay positive when lives are literally ending in the street and families are being destroyed?
I’m still not really sure how to do these things, but I’ve realized that I have to.
My path comes from a place of privilege, and I know that.
My earliest family ancestry has been in this country since before it was even a country, but still I’m not native. Generations ago my ancestors left everything they knew to embark on a new adventure. Some left their homes because of religious persecution. Others chased the promise of a better life.
The American Dream was something we were taught about as kids, and it was always justification for why the United States was such a wonderful place.
Today and always, our country is built on immigration. Our country is a mix of cultures, colors, and beliefs, and that’s what makes us beautiful.
A symbol of our country literally sits at the edge of the ocean welcoming newcomers.
But that’s an ideal, and not how our government is acting. We can’t celebrate the good and our strengths without acknowledging what’s going on in our streets. We can’t separate our lives from our surroundings.
👉 Planning a wedding right now is hard
I’m honored to be part of an important chapter in so many peoples’ lives. When I started Yeti or Knot, I built it on the mission to make wedding planning fun FOR EVERYONE and to design events that truly celebrated the people they were about.
I’m going to keep doing that.
I saw another post today that invited me to think about the world I want to live in. What is that world? For me, it’s one built on community, understanding, and opportunity for happiness FOR EVERYONE.
So I’m going to continue celebrating the love of others. I’m going to continue cheering on my fellow vendors and creatives. And I’m going to laugh and smile as much as I cry and scream.
In a world where not everywhere is currently safe, you are safe here.

The moral of the story: No matter your planning style is, you deserve to be a guest at your own party. And if you have a beautiful, unique vision brought to life with DIY decor, your planner should 100% be a problem solving ninja.
