Big thank you to Montana Vistage Chair Greg Davison for inviting me to present to his CEO group yesterday in Bozeman!
While in Bozeman, I enjoyed good food, locally distilled bourbon, the American Computer & Robotics Museum, and getting to talk with executives about marketing. Big take-away: the ability to tie marketing budget to results without advanced calculus is important and my method for doing that opened a lot of eyes.
Grateful for the opportunity and a terrific day! ๐๐ผ

We really put the work in workshop!
Thank you to everyone who came out yesterday for the Revenue Leadership Workshop.
We had a full room, lots of engaged business leaders, and some terrific Q&As around budgeting and choosing the right tactics to drive revenue.
Thereโs a big disconnect for executives trying to draw a line between investing in marketing efforts and realizing the ROI from marketing efforts โ itโs a great experience for me any time I can get into a room and show people how that connection actually works.
I appreciate our group yesterday, their energy, and their amazing questions ๐ค

Had a great trip to Raleigh, NC for the Smart Cities Connect Conference and Expo on behalf of my client ms.gis https://zurl.co/IxZe where I serve as Fractional CMO. I enjoyed the opportunity to speak with city managers and other smart technology providers about the ms.gis SuperConnector application, and ms.gis Founder & CEO Marcus Scheiber https://zurl.co/RCxJ delivered a terrific keynote at the start of the conference. We made some great connections โ one might even say super connections โ and got a lot of insight on the solutions that municipal IT leaders are looking for.

Small business owners often have to wear a lot of different hats. It can be the same way with marketing professionals. Soโฆ
โHow do you manage your marketing team so that you donโt waste time and/or resources?
โ
Make sure that you are clear about who is doing what and when.
At estound, we believe teams should include someone who can 1๏ธโฃ ENVISION goals that support the company mission 2๏ธโฃ DIRECT the marketing process to get everyone on the same page 3๏ธโฃ EVALUATE successes/failures and apply that data to current work 4๏ธโฃ EXECUTE the plan through tactics and converting leads to closed sales.
Your marketing team should be able to do these things whether itโs one person or many. If you find that members of your team are wearing multiple hats โ juggling responsibilities โ remember the four things listed above and have clear direction for how to execute your plan.
This applies to you too!
Whichever hat YOUโRE WEARING should match what the situation calls for โ the one that is most helpful to the part of the process your team is working on. Besides, you donโt want to be the one wearing a beanie in the middle of the summer, do you?

Opposites include: distraction, preoccupation, absentmindedness, daydreaming, obliviousness, carelessness, inattention.
Companies invest in marketing because they want to grow their business. But in many cases, what is produced does not serve that purpose. Instead, marketing is easily and often derailed by mismanaged expectations, moving goalposts, and creative processes driven more by someoneโs personal taste than a business goal.
Our advice: Stay focused, even when itโs hard. Your process will get you there if you remain vigilant.

I was recently a guest on the Leaders & Legacies podcast with Craig Andrews. (tag Craig) We had fun talking about how I started out as a graphic designer and ended up owning a marketing agency. Thanks so much for having me on, Craig!

Every year Development Dimensions International (DDI) releases a report tracking trends in leadership and C-Suite professionals. The report, known as the Global Leadership Forecast, researches management and the development of their leadership skills โ both positive and negative.
I came across their 2023 report recently, which described an expressed desire by many top level managers for a CEO-level peer group. This felt super relevant for me since I just wrote last month about my own experience with peer groups and the lifeline they have been for me.
