I remember very vividly picking up a guitar for the first time after dropping out of years of dance lessons. The tap shoes and makeup just wasn’t for me - and I always felt like an outsider in class amongst the other girls. The moment I walked into my first guitar lesson at 8 years old was when I knew my destiny. To be a rockstar. My Mom tells the story all the time of how shocked my teacher was at the fact that I had written an entire song within my first week of lessons. I really could not put the guitar down from the very moment I picked it up.

20+ years later and I am so proud to be where I am today - still living out this crazy dream and continuing to make that little girl in me proud for the both of us. I think she would be pretty stoked to see what i’m doing today.

Iv’e definitely dealt with and felt misogyny throughout the years from being a very young girl in the rock and guitar scene. IMO there is no need to add the ‘female’ label. I still to this day never understood why we can’t just be seen as equal. Always just been more fuel to my fire anyways.
