Students in the BA or BFA in Art can take up to three CDES courses to fulfill lower division electives:

- CDES 2222: Fundamentals of Communication Design to learn the principles of design for print and screen media.

- CDES 2225: Typographic Syntax to learn how to incorporate typography into your creative practice.

- CDES 2226: Design Inquiry to examine design's impact on visual culture.

- CDES 2302: Interactive Systems to learn best practices for digital systems and mobile apps.

- CDES 2602: Interface Design & Development to learn the basics of building websites.
