With expected heavy rains coming in this afternoon and evening, officials from the Valvoline American Late Model Iron-Man Series and Crystal (MI) Motor Speedway have mutually agreed to cancel tonight’s (Sunday, May 24) event. Officials are considering a possible makeup date.

The next events for the series will be June 12 and 13 at West Virginia Motor Speedway in Mineral Wells, WV paying $12,000 to win and $30,000 to win respectively. Both events are part of the Racefest which are co-sanctioned with the World of Outlaws Late Model Series presented by DIRTVision.

Had to work for it tonight! After struggling in qualifying we went 7th-3rd in our heat, then 11th-6th in the feature. Had a fast car tonight just needed to qualify better.

We enjoyed I-96 Speedway, first time back since I was racing mini wedges here!

I feel like I’d be not doing right by covering the sport of dirt racing if I didn’t give Luke Morey a little spotlight for his amazing Southern WV sweep last weekend as he continues to be one of those young names in dirt late model racing that you better start paying attention to.

This past weekend, the 18 year old development driver for Coltman Farms Racing went into southern West Virginia and handled business, sweeping the weekend with a big Friday night win at Princeton Speedway in Princeton, WV with the Ultimate Super Late Model Series, then backing it up the very next night with another huge win at Beckley.

At only 18 years old, Morey just continues to progress, improve, and look more and more comfortable every time he unloads. You can see the talent is definitely there, but you can also see the development happening in real time. With the team he has around him and the direction he seems to be heading, don’t be surprised if Luke Morey is standing on the podium at Crown Jewel events sooner rather than later.

There are certain young drivers you watch and think, “yeah this kid could be something special” and Luke Morey definitely feels like one of those guys.
