A Colorado native, Richard studied at the University of Colorado and the Art Students League of Denver. Splitting time between teaching, architecture, and painting from a Berthoud studio, Richard creates works that blend abstract forms with realism using oil paints and a variety of tools. Inspired by the space between memory and dreams, the work often incorporates folded-line motifs reminiscent of vintage photographs and magazines, with hardware elements used to connect diptychs and triptychs.

Another one for the books with !

We stepped out of the showroom and into the studio for an afternoon of wheel throwing, glazing, and hands-on making.

The afternoon was about more than making objects. It was about slowing down, getting creative, and connecting through the process.

Objects are always more meaningful when there’s a story behind them, and this was such a good one.

-What is your favorite song to sing? 
Too many favorites. Anything by CeCe Winans, my most requested is “Lord’s Prayer” - I can do with or without accompaniment.
 
-What meal reminds you of family? 
For our household, all meals are about family, I think Thanksgiving, so much love & care & prep goes into that meal.
 
-Morning bird or night owl? 
For sure Night owl – I do my best cleaning at night
 
-Favorite chair in the Millerknoll family of brands? 
Eames Lounge & Ottoman – I loved learning about this classic piece & seeing the care families put into it so it can be passed down
 
-What’s your favorite show to binge?
The Lord of the Rings (my favorite of the 3 is Two Towers)

Meet Karen Levi-Lausa, - one of our local artists featured at Adorn.

She came to painting full time when everything else paused.

Like so many, the pandemic shifted her path overnight, but instead of resisting it, she turned inward and rediscovered the artist that had always been there, just buried beneath everything else. Her first canvases? An old drop cloth left behind by a house painter. No pretense, just instinct.

Her work lives in abstraction, layered with mixed media, oil pastels, Stabilo, charcoal, and fragments of found print. Balance, contrast, and movement drive each piece, while unexpected tools sourced from nature leave marks you can’t quite predict or replicate.
