It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s a Liter of Portuguese red wine that looks back at you as you follow its simple, yet delicious suggestion: DRINK ME! 😜🍇🍷🇵🇹

For better and for worse, we’re all suckers for a catchy label- after all, market research shows following varietal/style and price, label is the number 3 factor in making a wine selection.

Wine should be fun and fun labels are part of that! Better yet is when the wine sneakily comes in a Liter and actually drinks as good as it looks! (We’ve all been burned there before, wah wah)

Which is most certainly the case with this organic Nat Cool Portuguese Bairrada red from the famous port producer Niepoort, featuring the workhorse grape Baga. Most often used for rosé, here it’s instead used to make a lighter bodied, chillable red wine, think like a Gamay or Burgundian Pinot Noir!

Try chilling it for 30 minutes before serving at sunny day picnics, alongside charcuterie and cheese boards, and with lighter chicken, pork, and seafood dishes.

Niepoort 2020 Bairrada Baga Nat Cool ($25/Liter). Light bodied, wild raspberry and tart raspberry, earthy leather and smoky minerality, white pepper, lightly floral, refreshing acidity, dry and easy on the finish, very tasty!

Did we mention it comes in a Liter?! 😜 (As more wine should!) Saúde! 🍇🍷🇵🇹

Having a hammy or lamby holiday feast this weekend and need some wines to pair? It’s not too late to snag a 🍇🍷🍾🥂

Dining on some lamb? Try a Chianti or Tempranillo to match those gamey, earthy, and savory flavors! Pigging out on porcine products? Pair with Sparkling Rosé or a dry California Zinfandel, those fruity flavors play perfectly with pork!

Cheers and bon appetit!
