I’ve always had some strong opinions about how I wanted to style my work because it seems like most invitation shots are always full of a thousand other things, overwhelming the image and distracting from the simple beauty of the elements I particularly love about paper design- things like paper textures, irregularities, impression details, etc. A few years back I was lucky enough to be part of styling a shoot with some big names in the wedding industry (tens of thousands and hundreds of thousands of followers all around, that kind of thing). Every single person involved was friendly and very talented but I remember the florist coming up to me after I had finished putting together a couple of flat lays with my paper pieces, and asking me if I was finished. It was said in a totally kind way but the implication was that the flat lays were quite simple. But yes, I was done and yes, the simplicity was intentional. I was CRAZY nervous to even be talking with this person, let alone asserting a styling opinion when I was someone nobody had really heard of. I felt SO nervous and worried the photographer would say they were too simple because I ‘wasn’t a real stylist who knew what they were doing’ (imposter syndrome, anyone?). I was confident enough in my vision though to not change how I’d presented those vignettes, and the photographer captured them BEAUTIFULLY. I’ll never forget the anxiety spike that question gave me though. Anxiety is such a tricky creature. Were these industry visionaries trying to change my vision? No! Of course not! They of all people respected and appreciated a maker’s perspective even if (especially if?) it was different than what they expected. Everyone worked together to make sure the different shoot elements were captured in a way that did justice to the moodboard I’d conceived, and that respect for individual artistic character within the larger vision made for such an amazing collaboration. A good reminder to trust your vision and not your follower count. Photo by a crazy talented friend who has a knack for capturing simple beauty and never second guesses my pared back flat lays

If you ask me where I think you should put the biggest part of your wedding budget, I’ll say photography every time. But THE FLOWERS. The flowers have my heart.

Ever have a project so fun you feel like dancing?? That was me, 9 months pregnant, designing and printing the paper pieces for this vision. Crazy fun collaboration with ALL THE COLORS put together by , and that is featured on today!!! I had an embarrassingly good time picking out colored paper for these pieces 🤓. (I’m alive but not officially back from maternity leave quite yet, just couldn’t resist sharing this! 🤗)

Happy winter solstice! I finally caught up on my emails today and got all sentimental just now going through photos from styled shoots in the last year or so. This is from the shoot that basically catalyzed 2017 for me. McCall (the photographer behind who shot this image) and I were brainstorming ideas for a simple shoot and I was daydreaming about putting together a small collection of invitation designs from my sketchbook because I wasn't getting hired for the types of projects I wanted to be doing and I felt like it was because my portfolio sucked. I was also worried people would think minimal wasn't 'designed enough' but that's what was speaking to me- minimal approaches to invitation design that emphasized the textural beauty of letterpress. McCall was extremely kind and goes 'why don't you bring a few designs and we can shoot them if there's time at the end'. Those designs were my first collection: Senna, Minna, Beckett, Nico... literally my entire website is from that shoot. Seriously- I had very few invitation projects before that and was mostly freelancing and printing greeting cards. I had a part time job at a wine bar for awhile because I couldn't pay my student loans. And now? I'm a small studio but where I'm at is already absolutely beyond my wildest dreams. I can't even express how grateful I am for this past year and all the amazing people I've gotten to work with. It is SUCH an honor and I pinch myself all.the.damn.time. // Vendor dream team from this shoot- as featured on ... photography: florals: model: via H&MU: food styling:

A detail shot from of yesterday's custom mountain invitation design. I letterpress printed Melissa + Zach's names on the front side of the invite just above the torn paper profiles of Gothic Mountain and Mt. Crested Butte. This allowed guests to have a quiet moment with the couple as their very first impression before all the logistical pieces were seen. I also love this shot (< that autocorrected to "sh*t" and I allllllmost left it...) because you can really appreciate the unique texture of the (😍). This invitation suite had a double-sided invite (this is side 1), a double-sided RSVP with blind and grey ink on each side, and a custom map. That means I had SEVEN rounds of printing on the antique letterpress. (Fun fact: generally speaking I don't love belly bands on invites, but this mountain profile version is my jam.) Most designer's outsource their letterpress printing (which, for the record, I think is 100% ok), and to be honest I may need to in 2018 because it's tough to scale when you're balancing print days with email days (and letterpress is far from a quick process), but being a printer myself and understanding how the presses work really helps me design in ways that emphasize the unique aspects of this process I love so much. You can see the full wedding on (!) via the temporary link in my profile. Amazing vendor team:

Featured on today (!!!!!) ... my very favorite custom invitation suite from 2017. Every bit of this wedding was gorgeous, every vendor involved brought their A-game, and Melissa + Zach are such wonderful humans with a beautiful partnership. The Colorado dream team came together for these two, and they were all about giving each of us a level of creative freedom that allowed for some serious artistry. I'll tell you something about this project- when the bride's sister is the best florist in Aspen, you want to really BRING IT. I get asked to do something with mountains all the time, but I rarely get set free to interpret them however I want. This design? This was a crazy idea I had in my head to interpret mountains in a minimal but impactful way. I literally hand-tore those mountain profiles for every invitation because I thought it would look more natural than the quicker and easier route of die-cutting them. I used my favorite paper by (it's called "Wild" for it's incredible texture) and I kept the pieces neutral and organic per the couple's style, but made sure it was something nobody had ever seen before that still had major wow factor. So many details I'm embarrassingly proud of you guys. This was THE MOST creatively satisfying custom invitation suite I've ever designed, and you're gonna be hearing about it for awhile. Thank you, M + Z // Fellow vendors (no words for the talent this crew has ⚡️⚡️⚡️):

Featured on today- a BEAUTIFUL styled shoot with deep indigo tones. I loved being a part of this shoot because the vision was so interesting and different. (Talented vendor team outlined below) // These are the menus I designed for this shoot, and they are actually one of my favorite things I designed for a shoot this season. I'm working on an update to my collection for 2018, with a design (possibly 2, still deciding) involving abstract paint strokes like this with a more balanced use of negative space - artful, minimal, and genuinely fun to make. I love that each one is unique. // VENDOR TEAM... Featured on , Photos + Art Direction: Florals: Ribbon + Backdrop: Cake: Models: + H&MU: Menswear: Headpiece: Dress: Table Rental: Studio: Film Lab:

So excited to see this beautiful shoot featured on today!!! The way Madalina captured the light in this shoot is too beautiful for words, Anda absolutely outdid herself with the styling, and those locally foraged florals? Dyyyyyyiiiinnnng.
I used some beautiful .studios paper to wrap the letterpress invites, and tied the wrap closed with some delicate thread to echo the oceanic vibe.

BY FAR my favorite photo-based save the date I've ever designed. These beauties combined giclée printed photos with letterpress printed text on one of my favorite cotton papers that is friendly for both methods. Aside from the cool technically specs I geek out over, I love these because They're a refreshing departure from the cute photo save the dates I see everywhere now (if that's your jam though there are no hard feelings, to each their own 😉). These are a perfect example of creating a mood with a less literal interpretation. Bringing this up now because I'm working on a few save the dates for 2018 weddings and it's on my mind. Lastly, these are my favorite because the bride was SO FREAKING AWESOME to work with. Complete creative freedom and trust, and also such a kind human being. SHE is why I do what I do. It doesn't get any better than that (oh wait, actually, !). Forever grateful to her wedding planner/matchmaker for the referral. // On a separate note, will someone please hire me to do a really, really cool minimalist es**rt card installation on this wall at .events ? This texture is TOO GOOD folks. // Individual photos on save the date taken by (ummmm, how perfect are they for this look and feel?!), this photo of the save the date on the brick wall was taken by my favorite- .
